Tee Boxes
Tee Boxes needed a little more upkeep. Would have liked to seen ball cleaners every other hole, not every 3? I did not use the food/facilities.
exellent golf course and best green.
course is excellent condition best green. holding the shot really well. some holes little challenging but fun course, enjoying playing the course.
Cali Oaks!
California Oaks Golf Course has improved over the past few months and keeps improving. The fairways are maintained very well, and the greens are always in excellent condition. I feel as if I'm ripping them off for paying so little. Expectations are definitely met when it comes to Cali Oaks. The only improvement is that the bar should stay open a little longer.
Tempetom
Fun course that will sharpen your driving and short game. The greens are very good.
First Time
Live in San Diego, played this course for the first time...Took just under three hours. Love the greens and layout easy to follow. When my round was done 2:15 pm wanted to grab a bite but was told café closed at 2 pm during the week!?
Golf shop clerk not extremely friendly! Overall, fun course and I hope to play again soon...
What's The Fuss
I've read the reviews for this course and 85 percent are negative. I don't understand why so many people are giving this course a negative review. I've played the course 4 times and I have not felt pressured to hurry on a hole yet. No crowds and the greens and fairways are in fairly decent shape. No interaction with staff other than sign in which went well. I have played at courses where I have paid 70 plus and found this course to be in a lot better shape. For the money they can't be beat. Would recommend this course to anyone.
Best For the Money
IT was a great time playing and there were lots of challenging holes as well as many straight on easy holes. Water and a creek keep you honest and if you are slicing you will be visiting them often. we played early and the greens were great and surprisingly soft. It's good golf. If you want the ultimate beautiful courses then you need to spend more for that. But if you want to hit a good drive choose the right approach club then putt on a good green for your birdie then this works really well.
Played for years
Easy to get an afternoon Tee time. Good layout.
Cold beer and great hotdogs.
Value for the money
Not easy to find a course that you can play 18 for $10 (hot deals). The course conditions are not great... lost 2 balls in the "light rough" on the side of the fairway... very thick grass freshly owed with grass clippings left... balls must have been buried under the clippings. Greens were a little over watered, I sunk 2 balls into the green on approach shots. All that said, for $10 - $20 what can one expect... great practice course
Tight fairways
With some landscape maintenance, this would be an excellent little course. The greens were pretty good but fairways and rough need clean up. Lots of weeds growing up in traps and through cracks in cart path.
A Scorcher
It was one of the hottest days of the year, but that just made the course less busy. I've played this course several times and always end up losing a lot of balls. It is a fun course though. The fairways are in the same shape as most of the courses around here, dry and patchy, but the greens are in good shape.
Nice Course
The course is in excellent condition all the green and fairways are great. Keep it in the fairway lots of hills to roll into water hazards. Great course lots of fun.
If you are a beginner bring extra balls.
Leave your driver at home
My first time on this track . The course needs maintenance. The front nine has overgrown trees that need the services of an arborist . The rough is ragged and needs to be cut . You will lose balls in the first cut of rough. The back nine is in much better condition. The fairways, landscape areas and greens in better condition. I would bring extra junk balls and leave the Pro v1 at home. Price was cheap. Improve the conditions u will get more play.
Pro Shop Guy Never Showed Up!
We went yesterday for a 6:30 am T-Time and left at 7:00 because the pro shop guy never showed up. My buddy and I along with 3 other random people left. What a joke!!
Great shape
Very impressed with this course. They have come a long way. Greens are fantastic. Could use rolling. Very challenging. Don't be fooled by the length of the course. This course plays target golf & a well planed strategy game. Not for the faint hearted. Bring extra balls if your handicap is grater than 18.
Thanks for the great review! We have really been trying to improve course conditions in the past year. The greens are a little slow for our tastes, but we plan to speed them up in the future. We are glad you enjoyed our course, and hope you come back!
fun course
Got a good golf deal here so decided to try it out......great friendly staff........course hot busy at all......went out by myself was done in a little over 3 hours......most of the holes here are shorter them most 18 hole course's but they are very tough......dog legs, lots of sand, and water......creek running through the middle of a lot of holes,,,, made you really think about your shot.....I had a ball and the hamburgers were fantastic.......already making plans to go back.......
Thanks for the great review! We hope to see you again!
watch out for the hidden $12 cart fee
I booked the course partly because it was halfway between me and my sister, partly because it was a great rate and partly because I like to walk. It was a walking rate with a walking symbol! When I checked in, I was given the run around by the attendant in the pro shop. It was a hot deal and I believed that all fees were paid in advance - just like every other hot deal I had ever booked - boy I was wrong. The attendant said that I owed another $12 for the cart fee. I told him that I didn't need a cart because I intended to walk and this is where the run-around started!!! First he said that they did not allow golfers to walk. When asked why, he replied that it was unsafe to walk because other golfers couldn't see a walker and they would hit into me - have you ever heard of a line of total nonsense? I had a white shirt on and I'm a BIG guy, no way they wouldn't see me! I told him that I booked a walking round and he said that GolfNow was in error and that they were not really affiliated with GolfNow. Somewhere in our conversation, the attendant slipped up and said that they don't RECOMMEND walking. Wait, didn't they say that walking is not allowed? (and therefore they could charge a mandatory cart fee) The attendant changed their story when I said that I'll pay the $12, but I still wanted to walk anyway, to which he said, ok, have a nice round. All of a sudden walking was allowed!!""!! The golf course was fine, but I will not play there again because I won't do business with shifty people and nor should you.
Cal Oaks is a must course to play
First time golfing here. For what I paid for I th ought course would not be that great but man was I wrong. I will for sure be back to golf this course very soon.
Beginner
The afternoon specials are great for me. I'm still learning with balls spraying now and then. I like to go to this course to practice without pressure. Its a laid back feel but with plenty of challenge too.
One of the best kept secrets in the IE!
Over all this course was great with the excpetion of some of the fairway were overwatered and squishy (suprising in drought conditions). Most of the sand traps need some TLC, they wer hard with lots of weeds. Greens were a bit slow early on but as the day heated up, the speed improved. As in other reviews, green would benefit from rolling.
Some of the fairway were tight but with a well aimed tee shot, 2nd shots are easy lay ups. Good layout for all skill levels. Great deal for the money!
