Green To Tee Photo submitted by gregjm1977 on 03/17/2013
Late
We had another great day. We had a 9:15am tee time and the club house attendant didn't arrive until 10am. We got started one hour late. The coarse is doing great for the time of year. True and fast greens. Never a bad lie in the fairway. Bunkers need sand but they are manageable. Miss the fairway, green, or get above the hole and you will pay. Hit fairways and greens and you can make birdies.
Nice Course
Course conditions were good considering it was Dec in Tennessee. The greens were extremely fast and the pins were placed in difficult positions, but that made the course interesting. My only negative was the extreme slow pace of play of the groups ahead of us-it took us 4 1/2 hours to play 18! Very nice staff.
Great coarse.
Our group has been playing alot of golf here lately and we have enjoyed every round. The coarse is in good shape for the time if year. The bunkers need some sand but that's really the only problem we see. I do understand that this coarse could be a hard place to maintain due to the layout. Over all I am very pleased. The gentleman/starter at the first tee is hilarious!
One of my favorite places to play. Greens are great. Fairways are great. Bunkers are pretty bad right now. I enjoy the round everytime I play here
Unique and challenging
I love this coarse. The views are awesome. You need to keep in mind this is a links style coarse. The tee shots can be tight and missed fair ways will lead to lay ups. The zoisa fairways will give perfect lies. The rough is not too bad. The bunkers could use some sand. The grass is long around the bunkers and the lips are steep, but it is a links style coarse. The greens are unlike anything I have played. They are soft yet extremely fast and undulating. If you hit the green above the hole you will be in trouble. This coarse is long and challenging but not unfair. Island Pointe is really a great round of golf. Pace of play is about 4.5 hours for a foursome playing ready golf.
Excellent layout
I love playing this challenging yet fair course.
Greens are excellent and very fast.
Traps need work...
Staff very friendly....
Fun course
The Island is one of my favorite places to play in the Sevierville/Knoxville area. Challenging but fun and interesting layout. The greens are smooth, soft but fast. Lots of blind tee shots but certainly manageable. This course has scenic views along the river, with the occasional Mountain View. You rarely see other golfers even when the course is busy. A must play while in the area.
Quality & Value
Played 5 rounds in two days. Grades: Greens - A+; Fairways & Tees - A; Sand - D+, but slowly improving; Staff (Dave) - A+; Rough - B; Cart paths - C-. If you're a senior, a round including cart is $23 by paying cash. Very enjoyable course. Hope it continues for many years.
What a funnn challenge
I am a 15 handicap. And all of the holes were a very fun challenge. You had to place your shots in order to get to the greens in regulation. The course was fair as far as difficulty. But I love the shots over the water. The one was 176 yards to clear the water and that was the river itself. The greens were in good shape. And they held if you landed them properly. My wife had a very enjoyable time and she generally plays in the 110 to 115 range. She love the scenery. Definitely not a walking course.
Keep up the good work.
My last review of this course wasn't the greatest, but it appears that they are at least trying to improve this great track. The greens are looking great and healthy for a change. Bunkers still need some love, and the shack still is closed up, but would def play this again. The guy at the desk told me "it will never be what it was 20 years ago" but I think it could. But that only happens if we support it by playing it. Get out there and give river pointe (river islands) another try.
needs improvement
I was disappointed in the condition of the course, bunkers were overgrown and were in need of sand , there seems not to be much efforts in the upkeep or improvement of the course.
Plan part of your golf trip here
I have played this course on consecutive golf trips. This is a great course that could use some upgrades. I'm not sure what the future of this course is since it's a bit off the beaten path. There are many holes with water especially the par 3's. There s trust some holes in which you must trust your swing and there are several birdie opportunities. Play on!
Golfcraze
Backed up real bad. Course was good in spots. Other areas a little rough.
The course has improved in the last couple of months
Greens are good
Rough has been mowed
Fairways in good shape
Cart paths are rough in places
Great deal for seniors
Island Pointe (aka River Islands) is back to its former glory!
River Islands has been my favorite public layout in the South for over 25 years. This Arthur Hills layout is absolutely gorgeous with five holes on an island in the middle of the Holston River. The routing and shot values are superlative, with some of the toughest par 3s that you will ever play.
Unfortunately, this hidden golf treasure has gone thru numerous owners in recent years. The course conditions suffered. However, the new owner has done a tremendous job reviving the course. The zoysia fairways were fast and firm with no weeds. The greens were in pristine shape and putted true. The sand traps still need to be worked on, with most having little sand and basically clay dirt. We played in just over 3 hours with no delays. Greens fees are $20 - $36 depending when you play. This has to be the best golf value in America! If you haven’t played this course, do yourself a favor and tee it up here. You will be amazed at how great this course is.
