Good experience
One of the best $20 courses I have played. It had rained hard the night before but the course drained well (for a FL course). For the time of year and weather, the course was in great condition. Played with a 4-some and we all had a great time and all said they would play this course if in the area again.
Best shape I've seen this course
No doubt the best shape I have ever seen this course in. It's not pristine but it's in good shape. Greens are very well maintained, fairways are mostly plush. 15 is open again. Very fun hole! Drivable par 4 over water. Love it!
Interesting course - not always for the right reasons!
Had a recent trip to St Augustine and this course was recommended. Can't complain about the cost (cheap) but it was very busy and the rate of play was slow (one of our bug bears). The course condition on the whole was ok, not great, but there were a few holes where the fairway really required a bit of attention. It looks like they have let 9 holes of the 27 that used to be available go fallow and have mixed up what was left to make the 18 that you play (it hadn't been updated on my garmin and this made trying to work out distances a bit difficult). Although everyone at the club was very friendly, on the whole I wouldn't play it again and probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone -sorry.
Good value and good course condition.
Enjoyed the day. Course and weather were both great.
Good value for your money
We like this place! always good conditiones. This time the greens were not so good because of oversseding, but we are shure it will be better next time.
Close to St Augustine and worth the experience
We were doubtful after reading the reviews but we found this course well suited to our abilities and close to St Augustine. Good layout, plenty of challenges yet forgiving enough and the course was in better shape than some others we played in the area. Greens were a bit awkward and just regaining strenght and they were a bit fuzzy and slow but overall a great experience.
Great value
Super friendly staff. Course was maintained. Not a PGA Championship course but was real surprised because it was only about $30 for 18 with a cart.
Good condition, not wet now.
Course was in very good condition. We got a little confused trying to find the 10th hole and also a little confused by the temporary hole.
Golf at St. Johns Golf Club,Elkton, FL
Unfortunately, many courses in my area are experiencing difficult times because of the amount of rain that has fallen this summer and fall. And St. Johns is no exception. Through no fault of the course management, the entire course was soggy and in many cases unplayable. Walking a golf course is something I have not done in forty years. When advised it was mandatory walking, I though I could do it. I guess I was not being in touch with reality. Nine holes is all I could muster. Looking forward to the day I can return without the need of an Ark.
Not cool!
Wet course after a prior evening rain and the course was walking only on the day we played however the owners family and staff were running all over the course in carts spray painting markers to earn free rounds. The pro shop staff was friendly along with bar/grill staff but maintenance crew was rude with no golf etiquett. The fairways were nice but underwater and the greens were in great shape but the couse was confusing to get from hole to hole with no signs or hole info at the tee boxes. Top it off with fire ants on the tee boxes and you seal the deal for not going back.
Nice, but could be so much better
St. Johns Golf Club is definitely a diamond in the rough (no pun intended). Its layout is one of most challenging in the St. Augustine area, with water on several holes that have forced carries from the tee box. It also has one of the prettiest golf holes -- a double dogleg that wraps around a lake -- in the area. However, the course gets A TON of play, which causes some major slowdowns. It also is undergoing some maintenance now that has shut down one of its holes and creating an awkward par 3-par3 set up on the back nine. It could also use some rangers who keep the pace going. But I would recommend this course, particularly to someone who hasn't played it because of the layout. One nice bonus was the greens were in very good shape on the early October weekend that I played.
The fairways need work - the greens are in great shape!
The course has had it's problems lately, but they have done a great job with their improvements.
Very Slow Play
Course is in good shape. Greens are in great condition! Not happy with the pace of play though. It took me almost 3 hours to play the front 9. The pain point was the fact that the course was covered with 'walkers' on a weekend afternoon. Not a good idea in my opinion.
Beautiful Real Estate
St. John's GC is a county course worthy of better effort from the county. It is one of two really affordable courses near St. Augustine, and the natural setting is excellent. When we played we saw deer, heron, egrets, and other birds in the many water areas. The county should spend the money to restore it to 27 holes, and promote it as affordable and beautiful. Bring in some events like demo days and give the World Golf Village some real competition, and build stronger youth, women, and senior programs.
Wish I lived closer. Very enjoyable course and staff
Course was in good shape. Interesting layout. Good greens. Manageable length for average distance hitter. Hank was very helpful to us on our first time out on this course. Would love to play it again.
The course has had a lot of rain and it was very wet.
The course was playable. Overall I probably will not go back to that course. Some of the tee boxes needed attention and also some of the greens needed attention.
The course has a good layout with lots of wildlife to see also
With all the rain we have had the course was in great shape the greens are coming in great after being sanded still a little slow but thought overall great shape the wife and I played in three hours and let a single play through we will play again soon
Good basic course.
Enjoyed my round on this course. Nice layout, though undergoing work on one hole and using a temporary hole. Interesting design with nice variety of holes. Water is in play but not excessively as in some area courses. Greens are still very sandy from recent top-dressing but should be very good soon.
Greens have been punched and sanded
It's in ok condition but they really sanded the greens a lot. But I still holed a few 10 to 15 footers so they are rolling ok.
For the money we paid, it was very good!
The greens and the fairways are real in good shape for a county course and the people are always very friendly.
