Rating 74.0

Tucked away in the beautiful Ft. Caroline area near Jacksonville, Hidden Hills Country Club stands on a historic battleground that witnessed the fierce struggles between France and Spain and continued into golf history with searing competition during the heyday of the Greater Jacksonville Open.

The 6,892-yard private golf course, built in 1966 on an ancient sand dune, was redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. Palmer's creativity helped create a championship-caliber golf course unmatched in natural beauty that makes excellent use of rare hilly terrain to create a unique Florida golf challenge. The fairways are lined with majestic pines and stately oaks, and the unpredictable greens have helped Hidden Hills gain the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses in North Florida.

Sharp doglegs, strategic placement of water hazards and putting surfaces that are mostly elevated serve up a mighty test for the low handicapper. Approaches are narrow and many of Hidden Hills Country Club's greens are well bunkered.

Hidden Hills has a rating of 74.0 from the championship tees, and the slope rating is 136.

Paid the right price for fair at best golf course.

In disrepair, great layout, challenging, needs renovations,

The greens were the only good part.

I’ve plaid better golf courses for the money…

Bad condition

This is normally a nice course and a great layout, but the front 9 fairways looked like a construction zone. The back 9 was much nicer. I would have expected a much lower rate with the condition of the course.

Long way to go

Greens and several tee boxes are much improved, fairways have a long way to go, very thin, seems like the soil there is not conducive to growing grass

Course is an absolute dump for $67. It’s actually funny they dare to charge that much to hit off a dirt tee box for 18 holes then to be hitting off dirt or sand in the middle of the fairway. Very disappointing considering the course used to be in great shape and has a challenging layout.

Four

Four groups per hole. I have been to this course several times and try not to go too often because I always tee off 20m late because they’re so behind. By hole 5 I am now sitting in view of 3 groups in front of me. I thought this was maybe a 1-off. But every time I come here it’s 5:30 minimum for $70 and a dump course.

Not Worth the Money

Half the tee boxes had barely any grass, fairways had bare patches and marked off areas everywhere, the greens desperately needed mowed.

On hole 14 (14!!), the starter (Rick) comes driving up to my group of 3, right to me. And he lets off the biggest “you’re not playing fast enough rant” I’ve heard in my life. A literal yelling rant. We had a newbie with us so I understand if we were playing slow. However, no one was ever waiting on us to hit, and we were on pace. It was hole 14!! After I finally get a word in he just drives off, waving his arms like a crazy person. I don’t know what this guy's problems was, but it was insanely unprofessional.

If the conditions were good I’d be back, because this is one of the only courses with elevation changes in Jacksonville. But the absolute disrespect that Rick leveled at me, I’ll never go back.

The greens were green, but very very slow and bumpy.

The course is working on the greens. They are not ready yet. The course should not be charging full price yet.

I like the course layout.

Trying to improve but still not there yet

I used to love this track. Maybe one of the best layouts in the area. But it has been in rough shape for a few years now. Played it for the first time in about a year hoping for the best since I got a cheap TeeOff deal. The greens have been over seeded and weren’t there yet. They were definitely still a little hairy. But better than the sand covered no grass greens they used to have. Some tee boxes were over seeded and some weren’t. Those that weren’t had very little grass. Those that were were in great shape. The fairways … not so great. Still very sparse on grass. Often had to move the ball around just to find some grass to hit off. I think they’re moving in the right direction but the cooler temps during the winter will probably slow the progress. Wish they had the funds to oversees the fairways, then it would probably be in solid shape in a few weeks. But I’m guessing that hopefully it’ll improve maybe by late spring.

This course still in poor shape

Hidden Hills has the potential to be a top 5 public golf facility in Duval County. It once hosted the GJO. But alas the course remains in poor condition. The tees need resending as do many fairways which have bare spots. The thing about the course is that it is inexpensive to play which of course reflects the poor conditions

Not like other Florida courses.

What a pleasant surprise. Different elevations on a Florida course. I read reviews and asked golfing friends about hidden hills and it was agreed it’s a nice track, but the quality of the grass had been lacking. The greens rolled true and there were a few bare spots in the fairways. There is a new greens keeper and I bet these conditions will continue to improve. Can’t wait to book it again.

Don't play here

To say today's round was a disappointment would be an understatement. Par3 tee markers stacked together with no prior notification all at 100 yds. One par 5 with a temporary green before the water hazard with no notification. Numerous tee boxes literally had us hitting off dirt. Maybe 40% of the greens were decent. With all of that they still charged $65. What's really a shame is after all of that you'd never I got my 2nd hole in one today. Hidden Hills GC please do better. Make your course look like your driving range.

Terrible All-Around

Went and played for my birthday, after seeing the price I thought the course would be in great condition. It was not, it was an absolute dumpster fire, fairways were terrible, greens were pretty bad. Not worth the money at all, and the cherry on top, one of the club house employees was giving me a hard time because I asked if my girlfriend could ride along, there was nobody within 30 minutes of me teeing off, nobody riding with me, and plenty of carts available, I might’ve given them the benefit of the doubt if he hadn’t charged me 25$ and some attitude for her to ride along, I’ll never be going back. Don’t golf here unless you like pasture golf and blowing money.

Better. Not good yet, but better.

Fairways still bad in a lot of spots but greens way better and it appears as though maintenance is on going. Give it another 45 days or so and if fairways are being tended to should be in good shape for the fall season.
