Tucked away in the beautiful Ft. Caroline area near Jacksonville, Hidden Hills Country Club stands on a historic battleground that witnessed the fierce struggles between France and Spain and continued into golf history with searing competition during the heyday of the Greater Jacksonville Open.
The 6,892-yard private golf course, built in 1966 on an ancient sand dune, was redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. Palmer's creativity helped create a championship-caliber golf course unmatched in natural beauty that makes excellent use of rare hilly terrain to create a unique Florida golf challenge. The fairways are lined with majestic pines and stately oaks, and the unpredictable greens have helped Hidden Hills gain the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses in North Florida.
Sharp doglegs, strategic placement of water hazards and putting surfaces that are mostly elevated serve up a mighty test for the low handicapper. Approaches are narrow and many of Hidden Hills Country Club's greens are well bunkered.
Hidden Hills has a rating of 74.0 from the championship tees, and the slope rating is 136.

Getting better
Greens are running fast which made it more challenging and penalizing. Fairways are ok but bare in areas and dry. Pace was slow as we watched and heard 4 some in front hit atleast 2 tee balls each off ever tee box..

The course was filling in nicely from the winter. Fairway grass is getting much better. Raise the blades on the fairway mower another 1/8 of an inch could improve the thin spots.Grass on the greens looks good. Rolling very nice.

Course Conditions
Tee boxes were bare in many spots

Typical Arnold Palmer course
Like the title says this is an Arnold Palmer design. Like any Arnie course it’s going to make you work for a score. But it is an entertaining layout and while tough wasn’t punishing. You will use almost every club in the bag at some point. The course is well-maintained and I can’t wait to go back again.

Great Course
Staff was very friendly. Played 18 holes in 3 hours 15 minutes. Tough course a lot of water fairways in great shape. Greens were a little dough but putted well speed was good. Great day all around!

Always a fun course … a little brownish right now.
Always love playing Hidden Hills. It’s probably one of the only courses in Jax that has some actual hills and isn’t Florida flat. We haven’t had much rain lately and you could tell. The greens rolled fairly fast but were definitely dry and crusty and burned out on several spots. Every green had some heat/dry spots. Made it somewhat difficult to spin the ball as they tend to skip more on dry crusty grass. But still rolled nice and fast (bumpy just a little in some spots.) since there were reclaimed water signs in the course I’m not sure why it seemed as though the greens and fairways hadn’t been watered that much - maybe it costs too much to run the pumps? But I’m not a course superintendent so no idea why not. The only “frustrating” thing on the day is that we played the blue tees and on almost every hole, the blue and championship tees were put together. (Sometimes they were put together on the blue tee boxes - but for the most part in the back of the blue tee box) and sometimes they were together on the championship tee boxes. This made a big difference on the par threes. Felt like I was essentially playing champ tees most of the time. Not sure why this was done. Some of the tees were still sandy and a little damaged but there were several where they could have separated the blue/gold tees and made an actual blue tee marker that was a little ”more blue distance.” The course is one of the more difficult ones in the Jax garea. It doesn’t need to be made any harder for a weekday casual round. Just my somewhat picky opinion - it seemed lazy and that they just didn’t want more tee boxes to take play damage. There may have been a reason for it but this is probably the 4-5th time I’ve played there and the blue and gold tees were predominantly together. Other than that, still love the challenge of some of the holes on this course.

Dear god
One of the worst tracks I’ve ever played. Talk about a cow pasture. Awful tee boxes fairways and greens. There’s no other way to put in other than this place is in horrendous shape. To charge 80$ is literal robbery. It should be 30$ or less for the condition it is in.

If this course was more heavily watered and not do dry it has the potential to be a great public course
