About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

Underrated
San Juan Oaks would be getting more street cred and golfing cred if it wasn't away from the hussle bussle of San Jose proper. Great trac and great views and value
Great course but...
Greens were pretty bumpy today. Perhaps a hangover from a punch that occurred 1-2 months earlier? Bunkers are hard pan - very little loose sand. Several tee boxes were pretty chewed up.

Great time
Super course. As a 10 handicap I was humbled by the length and difficulty. Even long drives in the middle of Fairways were sidehill, uphill, or downhill lies. This is not a criticism. Just challenging. Green said were a bit bumpy but looked as if they had been punched recently. Overall great time.

Quick fun
Booked a tee off tee time for 10:40 because it rained early of that day nobody was out in front of us ended up playing in 3 hours Greens were great fairways were great The rain helped the sand traps all in all love the course was beautiful with the fresh rain and clouds highly suggest people play this course

Reasonable course with poor time management
Course is a good outing but there is no time management. Single players are allowed to play single even if another single is waiting. Just because this gentleman rejected my plea to pair up to allow foursome behind us to be able to finish before dark, I ended up offering the foursome to play with me to save time and we ended up repeating back 9 . There was no marshal to manage .

Well worth the 1 hour drive to play a beautiful corse w character and in great condition.

i like the course
great course, pace was good. started at 1 and finished at 5. wife likes the advantage for womens tee boxes. fairways are in good shape. this time the greens were bumpy and a little slow. I will go back again

Unbeatable Value
Don’t let the remote location or small town feel fool you, this course is every bit as good as those which cost two or three times as much to play. The setting is peaceful and each hole has its own unique design. The front nine is a nice warmup for the much more difficult back nine. Greens and fairways are always meticulously maintained, with consistent speed throughout all 18-holes. I’ve been playing here for years and I have always enjoyed it; even when I was a beginner and shot well into the 100’s. Haha

problematic
This course is excellent and the staff encountered extremely good. Practice facilities excellent. Starting from the 10th not ideal as the walk to the 1st was quite long across the car park and past the pro-shop.
However, encountering the worst issue of rudeness by a single player (female and not caucasian) we have ever experienced was a real downer on the day.. She continually drove into us, mouthed off at my wife and then drove her cart past us and then slowed us up as she got blocked by the 4 ball ahead of her (players that were ahead of us initially)
Etiquette of golf seems not to be taught today....calmness patience, have been overtaken by rudeness and impatience. Golf is not a sprint but it is not a marathon either. Poor marshalling of this problem.
Otherwise this is a superb venue.

Awesome course
Played this course for the second time. It’s an awesome place to play. Starting with the all grass driving range and plenty of room on the practice greens.
The course layout is a ton of fun. Several decisions to make from laying up in front of fairway bunkers and short doglegs, water that can deter aggressive play, and well placed green side bunkers and pins. Plenty of risk involved if you want to try to approach par 5s in 2. The greens are great and have some challenging slopes, forcing you to find the correct level. A course that is difficult to bully. Wind definitely picks up in the afternoon, but is not much of a factor during winter.
Plenty of bathrooms throughout the course and a beverage cart.
Overall a very fun course with a challenging layout (and a unique back nine) that is fairly walkable and very well maintained.

Great Golf course
Tee box and fairway is in great condition. Very challenging course. The only issue are the greens. Was probably air raided a few weeks ago so it makes the green bumby.. overall it was a nice 8 mile walk.

Fair
Course conditions were good but not excellent, pace of play was terribly slow spent over 5 hours out there. And the carts automatic braking was quite aggressive. Be sure to be going 2 miles a hour when approaching a bridge or the carts breaks will slam on. Needless to say glad to have played it.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course.
