The aptly named Hidden Valley Golf Club feels secluded set between two large hillsides, amongst carefully preserved boulder outcroppings, ravines, and an abundance of native flora and fauna. The challenging layout demands accuracy and it will also test your shot-making skills. Golfers should expect to utilize every club in their bag. The golf course features tight fairways lined with mature trees, tricky doglegs, and multi-tiered greens that can be difficult to read. The rolling terrain also promises difficult uphill and downhill lies. Bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there is water on a few holes. A windy day adds yet another formidable element to the challenging design. The diverse layout has a mix of difficult par 3s, reachable par 5s, and a few birdie opportunities. Hidden Valley Golf Club will definitely test your skills, but five sets of tees make the course more approachable to a wide range of skill levels.

Good value

This is a very nice course but we could not start on time because we had to wait for carts returned from earlier players. The pace was slow otherwise it was fun. Btw, there’s a few carts that could not make two rounds and got stuck. We were lucky that we had to replace one cart and the other one just made it.

#15 is closed

We teed up around noon. The course was packed and the plays were slow. We never saw any rangers to advise faster play. We finished 17 holes(#15 was closed) in the dark around 5 pm. The worst part was that they closed #15 without telling us before we started and it caused confusions what to do at the closed gate.

Slow play

The front desk is very rude, the pace of play was very slow. The fairways were nice and the greens were ok.

First Time Playing

First time playing here. Awesome views and scenery. Was a hazy/smoggy day so if it was clear the views would have been even better. Challenging layout with forced carries on many holes. Elevation challenges nearly every hole too, which made it fun but tough. It's either hit the fairway or first cut, or you're in the dirt/rocks/bushes. Little room for error. Pace of play was horrendous. Worst I have ever been a part of. 5 1/2 hour long round that began at 11:30am and we were rushing through with very little light to finish the last couple holes. That's just sad and frustrating. There was one hole that had 4 groups in front of us waiting to tee off. More than a 30 minute wait on one hole. If it wasn't for the pace of play, would have been a fun and challenging day. Tee boxes could use some work.

Great for the Money

In OC, the courses are valued too high for what it's worth. For Hidden Valley, I paid $94 that seems a great value. Should pay $120. Great views.

It Needs Serious Help

Unfortunately in SoCal you absolutely get what you pay for, and Hidden Valley is a true $50 round, you’re going to have to spend $80-$150+ to find quality golf out here, just the way it is. This course has the potential to be one of the coolest courses in all of California with its extremely unique layout, but the course continues to not be properly cared for. The layout already naturally causes a backup with its long drives to certain holes, blind tee shots, and drivable par 4’s, however, with no real Marshall enforcing the play, the pace of play is horrific. You’re guaranteed a 5+ hour round on this course even on a weekday, and God help you if you’re playing on a weekend. Kikuyu grass takes over much of the rough and large portions around the green making it extremely difficult to judge your chips and pitches. This was the nicest I’ve seen the course in quite sometime and I’d still call it below average overall. The sand in the bunkers is concrete and can hardly be called sand. It’s just a shame this course doesn’t get the love it deserves.

shortage of golf carts and hidden charges

Made a tee time reservation for 3 at 140pm on a friday. One of my buddy's could not make it and it ended up being 2 of us only. We had to wait for golf cart because they ran out of golf carts. Not sure how that happens. The golf cart touch screen was not working at all, prompted an error message for the 18 holes. The group ahead of us had it worse, one of their carts died on the 14th hole and they had to push it all the way back to the club house in the dark! The pace of play is horrible, extremely slow. Only played about 13 holes.

Beware of hidden charges! i was charged $52 for my buddy not showing up to play. According to one of their employees that i spoke to, this is their policy. If someone in your group cancels last minute or does not show, the person who made the reservation will be charged full price for them.

First time here. This was my first time back golfing after a 6 month layoff due to a complete tear of my bicep surgery. Loved the layout. Will be back for sure.

Solid

This course is beautiful. Definitely worth the money. Some fairly challenging holes, yet the course isn’t overwhelmingly difficult. When it’s windy this might top 50 most difficult courses in Cali. Pace of play depends on who’s in front of you. Overall excellent 8.6/10
