Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
About
Arthur Hills designed the Padre Course at Camelback Golf Club to deliver a fun round that's tough to forget. Trees tower, landforms show subtly, and bunkers improve your golf skills. The par-72 golf course measures 6,903 yards, and has gained its renown by offering a design that requires strategy.
A round of golf on the Padre Course at the Camelback Golf Club kicks off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 446 yards from the black tees. Things get long on the fifth hole, a par 5 that comes in at 553 yards from the black tees, one of four 500-plus-yard holes. The 18th hole is one of these: It's 547 yards from the black tee to the post-round celebration.
After your round on the Padre Course at Camelback Golf Club, head to the Golf Grill, serving U.S. cuisine and a fancy Sunday brunch in the style of Southwestern country clubs. There's also a luxury lounge where you can spend winters on the patio by the fireplace.

The sign near the 5th hole Photo submitted by Hiroko9831738 on 12/02/2012
Nothing special
Range was closed. One hole was closed. Overall course was fine but nothing memorable.
First Time Around
They were in cleanup mode after the heavy rain/winds of the weekend, so the rough was up, but the fairways/greens were in good shape. Fun course and pace of play was good. Got to play early and that was a plus. Will play again.
Camelback Padre Course
Very nice golf course in a lush setting which was unexpected for Scottsdale. The course had a nice variety of holes with unique challenges. Club selection adn target line were critical if expecting to score well. Really enjoyed the par 5 holes which reuired you to make decisions from the tee box regarding placement of the drive if you planned to go for the green.
Friendly and Fun
The course staff are extremely friendly and the course is fun - its a good value and perfect no matter what your skill is.
Miss Fairway = Lost Ball
This is pretty good layout, however, at the time of play, the rough was 3+ inches long and the kind which let the ball settle down to the root system. This meant for not only a tough day, but a long one. Pace was well over 4.5 hours and I believe this is due to ball hunting. Barely missing the fairway resulted in a ball being almost unfindable. Do not play here right now. I'll try to upload a photo where my son is standing in the fairway and you can just make out the top of my ball, 5 yards into the rough. He even lost a bright yellow ball, having watched it run up the fairway then tail out into the rough. Bizarre and unrewarding day out.
Great condition
Golfed with my wife she loved the course great lay out. Course was in fantastic condition greens are fun to put fairways great ( make sure you hit them) rough very challenging. Liked it so much playing it again before we leave for home.
Excellent facility
Associated with the JW Marriott Camelback Inn. Lunch was fantastic. Haven't tried their dinner menu yet. Staff was very friendly. Range balls included in green fees!! Saved up to $10 with that alone.
Nice course condition
The course was in great condition. Only thing was tee boxes were not mowed down enough. Green was rolling good. Don't go in the rough, it's tough to get out and hard to find the ball. 1
Padre is in great shape
I thought the greens were in excellent shape. The Padre course has some challenging par 4 & 5 holes with either green elevations or water hazards. Definitely try to stay in the fairway. The grass/rough is high enough to be tricky if you're not careful. A great course to play for the money.
The course was top notch!
I liked the par threes and par fives. Some of the par fours were too easy. The greens were 9 out of 10 because they had sand on them. Otherwise, excellent conditions and would definitely play again.
Didn't know the greens hadn't grown in yet
Went with a friend that I often golf with and we were both disappointed after the first hole when we realized all of the greens had been punched and not fully grown in yet, just wish we were warned while booking. The guy at the end even said he didn't understand why they apparently punched them twice. If you're here, just play ambiente.
VERY BAD CONDITION
During check in pro shop attendant when asked, stated that the greens were almost back after being punched. As soon a we hit #1 we knew he had mislead us. Not only were the greens unplayable, the tee boxes and fairways had not been mowed. The course was a goat ranch. We quit after 9, and demanded a refund by the same pro shop attendant. He refused at first, we asked for the general manager, they reluctantly gave us a refund. DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE - or verify condition
Good track
Good layout of holes and pretty long. Only gripe is that tee boxes hadn't been mowed and looked almost as long as the rough
Waiting for Summer to end......
...Summer heat taking it's toll on course conditions...... The 123 slope rating from the white tees doesn't reflect the creative and challenging design!.. The Padre course is a sharp contrast to the Ambiente course with many features found in Midwest and East coast golf courses...large greens with varied undulations sourrounded by deep fluffy ruff makes the slope rating worthy of a 128-130 rating instead of the 123......
Once the Padre is buffed and shined, it will be played a lot by our group.......and the par 5's offer enough risk reward for the golfer feeling confident with well designed hazards for the golfer not showing respect!
Keep away from water hazards take one more club when hitting
Fun but challenging
Greens are always in great shape and a good speed.
Prepare for a 5 hour round.
Very slow pace of play on the day that I played. We never did see a ranger on the course trying to speed things up. Usually one of my favorite courses in the Valley, but I frequently encounter rude service from the Starter and Attendants. The greens were slower than I remember, but not bad for this time of year in the Valley.
Nice course
Greate course for the money.
Challenging but not to difficult .
Great Course
This is why us Phoenix natives hang out here in the summer! Being able to play a great course, for hardly any money! I definitely will play this course again!
Great conditions.
Course was in great shape for June. Greens were holding and smooth. Great views of the mountains and expensive homes.
If the price is tempting.do not take the bait
I have played Padre going back to 1987 and have
never found the course in such poor condition.
only on about 6 out of 18 holes when in the fairway
did you find grass. On 3 holes with in 100 yards of
green the springlers were on.
The majority of the greens it was grass with sand.
From 140 yards in they would not reward a good
golf shot.
I am sure come the fall once again it would be
a Golf Course that upholds the that rates
5 stars.
