John Fought and Tom Lehman collaborated on the course at Verrado Golf Club, a voluptuous design that meanders through the old Caterpillar bulldozer proving grounds. It's up and down for 18 holes and that doesn't mean "chip and a putt." The course is good test with chances to score and a handful of memorable and scenic holes.

Where Verrado Golf Course will eat you alive is in the bunkers. Some bunkers are hard to carry, others collect wayward shots. But the fairways are wide enough to avoid trouble, and what appears to be the safe shot off the tee will often bring greenside bunkers more into play. So pick your poison.

While the back nine is far superior to the front, going out still has its fair share of memorable holes. A huge boulder 30 feet tall on the par-4 eighth jets out from the left side around which the fairway shapes itself. A perfect line from the tee box is to take the ball five yards right off its edge, but hitting the boulder is certain death by desert. The boulder was scheduled to crumble via dynamite, but stood up to the TNT and was deemed an immoveable object. Open and playable for all skill levels, the Verrado Golf Club is a sublime experience.

Great course

Would have given higher ratings but the round took 5+ hours. It was cart path only, which Golf Now failed to identify, but still should not have taken that long. There was a course Marshall, but he did nothing to hurry things up. And Golf Now has to do a much better job of identifying conditions like cart path only

The best parts of this golf course were the staff, and the driving range. As for the course design, the cart paths were largely too far from the playing areas. One should not have to walk thru 30 yards of rattlesnake habitat to reach the fairways. The course layout was OK at best. All in all it’s very overrated. I’m not sure I would play it again. I was disappointed.

Founder's Club Course

Fabulous views, well laid out, was hot (but not the course's fault!!), loved the bar for lunch and a cold drink. We played with a very rude player (he was arrogant and thought he was Arnold Palmer) so we opted to leave after the 11th hole. He made it very NOT enjoyable. Seriously, I love this course and will not let that situation deter me from playing again. Your staff at check-in, the valets, the clubhouse golf shop...all very professional and kind. Thanks!

Really great round with some nice views. The value was tremendous as the rate was $55. Second time playing. Staff was friendly and helpful. Course condition was really good, especially considering they are prepping for overseeding. Founders course is a lot more forgiving than the Victory (both are great).

Tale of 2 Nines

Front nine was really good. Conditions were pretty good, above average. Fairways a little thin in spots but it’s 115* outside. Greens in better then average, little firm but rolled decent. Back nine which apparently just came back from a closure was obviously back too early from whatever they were working on. Greens borderline unplayable, they were punched, and possibly re done recently. Ball bounces 2-3 inches in the air for every inch it travels. Would have been better off to put a flag in the fairway on the front of the green would have rolled better. Hopefully they can get it fixed because it’s a neat layout, staff friendlier then all be out.

Verrado Founders Course

We played Monday and had to play the front 9 twice. We were one day early to play the entire course. They were redoing the bunkers. The course is in great condition tee box, fairways and greens.
