Riverwalk Golf Club
About
A collaborative effort by Ted Robinson Sr. and his son has resulted in a most scenic championship layout. The championship 18 meanders through mature eucalyptus trees, tall palms, and majestic oaks. Sparkling ponds contrast with the dozens of white sand bunkers and the emerald green, Bermuda grass fairways.

9th Hole Mission Photo submitted by canyonman59 on 12/06/2012
good and bad
Played behind a tournament so it was brutally slow to start but the starter suggested that we move over tio the Friars nine to finish the round. Great move. The Mission nine was in good shape but the greens were a little spongy and kind of slow. The Friars nine is a mess and most of the fairways are roped off but the tees and greens were OK. It was worth it and probably turned a five hour round into a little over four.
Unfortunate what's happening here
Used to play this course regularly. Usually a 5 hour round minimum on weekends. They dont tell you when you book your tee time theres a 48 man tournament going out 10 minutes before you tee up. Friars is a backyard quality course, Presidio and Mission have ground under repair every other hole. The greens are well maintained but this course used to be one of my favorites. Probably wont play here again for a while.
Good value
Great greens, traps in good shape, could use a little more care in the fairways, good mix of short and long holes
Course has to find a maintenance crew
What do you call a goat pasture with no goats?
I don't know if it's the maintenance crew's fault it the course owners, but dirt fairways, gravel pits for bunkers, clover fields for rough and lumpy diseased greens with huge divots in the skirts are not enticing.
Cannot recommend. If I die without playing here again, I will still RIP.
Shoddy fairways; good greens
First time in a year playing Riverwalk. Really surprised and disappointed at the poor condition of the fairways. Patchwork of ground under repair everywhere. Maybe one of the few courses in the county that is hurt by the rain because it’s in a flood plain. Upside was the greens, which were in very good condition, though a little fuzzier than most courses in the area. Bunkers are very good too. Pace was awesome. Played in less than 4 hours and it was decently busy. Price was right with GolfNow. Wouldn’t pay more than about $35 at this point.
OK course, mediocre condition
First time in several years. Course condition was spotty bad. Greens were good for poa annua bloom time. In current condition it is not a course I would spend above $50 to play.
Not happy w/ River Walk pro shop nor Golf Now App
I cancelled my tee time with the pro shop due to a delayed plane flight morning of. They said they would not charge me for cx and thanked me for the notice. The GN app sucks and you cannot contact customer service on 800 number nor via live message thru app. I was still charged $220+ and never got to play the course. Hoping this post gets someone’s attention and can fix their issues. Why would a representative from the pro shop say one thing and then do another? I’ve left messages for RW management to return calls which went unanswered and unreturned. Disappointed overall.
Hoping to get this resolved.
Disappointed
Superb Greens
Greens rolled as true as any public course. A little slow due to all of the rain we've had in the past week, excellent overall. Friendly staff and while there are several newly sodded areas playing as ground under repair, it didn't detract from the round.
Nice track, bring water!!
Our day on Riverwalk was enjoyable. The pace of play was fine for a Sunday with our 18-holes taking just a tad over 4-hours. There was a snack/beer cart on the course but it was challenging to get service. Suggest that you bring plenty of your own water if it is at all warm out. The greens were fun and the course overall was well groomed. I would play here again.
Great course and even greater staff
First of all John the starter was great to talk to before my round. So much that I even looked for him after my round to say thanks too, but he was on break. The course was beautiful, the greens were true even though they were being worked on. Overall, I had a great time out. I will certainly play this course again next time I’m in San Diego. Marshall kept the pace of play on track and that’s all I can ask for at a nice course like this.
Always great place to play !
The people in the pro shop Cordial and professional The braves are in great shape I play there regularly
Roberts
Greens were excellent. Fairways and near fairways are dry, bumpy, need improvement.
Pace of play pretty good.
Great layout, just missing maintenance
I get it, the owners are planning on 4k residential units on the north 9. But its unfortunate their money grab in real estate will be more important than a community gem like Riverwalk. I have to give the staff at Riverwalk a huge applause. Karl with players assistance dug deep into cart barn to find the last 2 functioning pull/ push carts for us. Staff appears to be working with one hand tied behind their back, and still show great effort in customer service.
Although the region has had a wet winter, great for growing grass, Riverwalk has failed in growing it in the fairways. Many fairways were recently aerated, but all that was present was dirt. The course was very dry too. I do have to say, the greens were in fact green and very slow as they most likely weren't cut in the past few days, but rolled true and in good shape.
The layout of the course was beyond great and offered a lot of variety, and makes the golfer think about every shot. I would love to see this course grown in and well maintained. Could be the best public course in the area in my opinion. But for now, its just o.k.
The twilight rate was justified.
Good value for money
Really pleasant day, course in reasonable condition. Really handy to get to from downtown. Got paired with a really nice group, would play there again as great value for money,
Good value for the money
Was a good value for a true ameature like myself that just wants to get out and play golf. Windy and challenging.
