Riverwalk Golf Club
About
A collaborative effort by Ted Robinson Sr. and his son has resulted in a most scenic championship layout. The championship 18 meanders through mature eucalyptus trees, tall palms, and majestic oaks. Sparkling ponds contrast with the dozens of white sand bunkers and the emerald green, Bermuda grass fairways.

9th Hole Mission Photo submitted by canyonman59 on 12/06/2012
Friars 9 is very poor.
The first 9 we played looked like a MX track. More water and mud than grass. The $ 45. rental clubs were very muddy and not cleaned at all. The 2 nd 9 was a fair amt. better. It was cool as far as one of the players i played with was a x Nfl player.
Ridiculous
I booked a 7:45a tee time for a buddy & I. When we arrived you could tell there was going to be a big tournament, yet there was no alert about any of this in golf now or anywhere like when a course aerated the greens. Of course the tournament started about the same time. We didn’t tee off until after 8 and it was after 2pm when we finished. Waited around on every hole & every shot. The 2 guys paired with us just left after 12 holes because it was so ridiculous. Is it that hard to inform the laying customers?
Kinda sad
I used to live in San Diego and played this course on several occasions and thought it was a very well maintained, challenging course. Today we played on A LOT of ground under repair, places that were muddy, places with no grass, wet bunkers, and overly watered fairways and greens. I'm not sure what caused the greens to be so fast, but they were extremely hard to judge speed on and many putts that were barely struck ended up 7 or 8 feet past the hole for everyone in our group. It was sad to see it in such disarray
Course is in terrible condition
This is my second time playing here and it’s the same as it was before. Over saturated fairways but at the same time no fairway is most spots. It almost seems like they just let it go when they sold the land. The staff also contacted Golfnow and told them I missed my tee time which I didn’t and now Golfnow is charging my card an additional greens fee which I will be disputing. Book somewhere else. There’s plenty of other quality courses.
The fairways are in bad condition
I’ve been playing there for years.
The fairways are the worst I’ve ever seen them.
Sorry to say
great features
The golf course not long in yards but you must be able to hit different shots off tee and fairways. Multiple holes have water and sand traps. Enjoyed the perfect weather and friendly staff. Played from the blue tees makes the water holes intimidating
Course conditions of Friars Course were dreadful. Half an hour wait to check-in in the morning.
course in bad shape
I have played the course 15 or so times over 10 years, and it's never been in poorer shape, particularly the fairways. Lots of bare spots, ground under repair, spotty tee areas, green but bumpy greens. No wonder it was $35!!
Good Value
We played on a Monday. The round included a hamburger lunch. The burger was great. The greens were fast and true. Fairways were average. Pace of play was great. We played as a twosome in less than four hours.
Terrible Condition
I played the Mission/Friars courses. Mission was decent, not great but okay condition. Riverwalk has completely given up on the Friars course. The majority of every fairway was dead or bare dirt. I think they are just watering around the greens. We decided against asking for our money back and will just never play that course again.
Pace of play was 5 hours but on a Saturday morning that can happen. The staff were friendly enough. My friend ordered a burrito from the kitchen and said it was great.
The Friars 9 is HORRIBLE
We played Friars-Mission, and the Friars course was in just horrible condition. Luckily, the Mission was in good condition. The greenswere a bit bumpy, but told in good condition. Long story short, only play here if it doesn't include the Friars 9.
Goatshill
Should rename the golf course to Goatshill, is a former member on StardustCC it is a absolute shame that the piece of land that was once great is know horrible. Those are the nice words, secondly it took 5 hours to play a 6000 yard pitch and putt. I will never pay 1 cent to play that —-hole again
Going downhill fast
It seems like since the news broke that the course will eventually be closing to make way for residential and retail development, there is zero care for those of us who have been loyal to the course for years. Pace of play, conditions and overall staff attitude have gone completely downhill. This weekend was a new low. We played behind at least 2 sixsomes that we could see and the whole time without a marshal in sight. Called the shop to ask them to help speed things up and got a 9-hole voucher for my trouble. After 5-1/2 hours for 16 holes, I doubt I’ll ever use that voucher. No thanks. Waht a disappointment.
50min slow
We had a 9:37am tee time and didn’t get on until 10:25am... Then the pace of play was so slow it took 6:15 minuets to finish 18. Slowest round I’ve ever played!
Convenient location, fun course, great value!
I've played Riverwalk several times over the past few years. This course is a great value compared to the other public courses in San Diego. Especially since Torrey Pines ends up costing well over $200 per round. Riverwalk is in decent condition for a public course, is very well located central to most of the San Diego area, and offers enough challenge for better players while being fun for golfers of moderate ability.
i highly recommend this course if you're staying in the San Diego area!

What happened??
Played this course for the first time a few years back and it was a great track in great condition. This last time, it was like I was at a completely different place. The greens were not bad, nice speed with a fairly true roll. The fairways, tee boxes and bunkers were as bad as it gets. The Mission nine looked the best from a far but they had a tourney going on so I didn’t see it up close. We played Friar/Presidio. They have completely lost the fairways, dry and dead is most areas with hardly any real turf. I found two decent fairway lies the entire round that actually had grass. It’s a shame because it’s a fun track in my opinion. I’d steer clear for now and see if they can get it back to what I remember it being.
