Ancil Hoffman Golf Course

I grew up playing Ancil Hoffman. Love the course. For years it’s been known as one of the slowest courses in town and on most occasions it is. Now it’s a slow course in horrible condition and I’m not referring to the greens, which were just punched with little notice. The course is a muddy mess with ruts and bare ground on every hole. Please cut back on the water! Recently they’ve been trying to get it back in shape but there’s an attitude with some staff members and grounds crew that it’s somehow our fault as some of us continue to support the course. Recently an umbrella like structure was installed over part of the range. Now we can’t hit wedges because of the structure. I wish they would have spent the money on sand for the bunkers instead and maybe some clocks around the course. If you want a shade structure Top Golf is your venue.

No indication when i booked the greens had been punched and were difficult to put on. This was disapointing but the coarse is a great challenge and is diffently worth play in about a week or so.

We play on Tuesday course was punch putting green on Monday. back nine is still close, Played front nine twice. Greens are all sands, no way you can putt. Tee Off never mention about that when I purchased tee time.

Greens are worst I have ever played on this course. Every single one was beaten up. Fairways were hard, hardly any grass. Pace of play was terrible…5 hour round. No marshals helping improve the pace of play. Won’t be playing this course for a long time. It’s too bad as the course has beautiful trees and abundant wildlife.

I have played this course for years and have never seen it in such poor condition. There are dry spots and puddled water on the course and the greens don't look very good at all. I don't know what happened, but the maintenance seems to have dropped off dramatically. Hope it is much better next time.

WOW..course is in worse shape I’ve ever seen..!!..hav been playin out there for many years..never take the time to write reviews..but just had to weigh in this..from fairways to collars to awful green conditions..it’s in bad shape..and in need of help…..grounds crew needs to get to work out there..!!..staff are still great…will be back because after all.. it’s Ancil..!!..but am very disappointed and hopeful this can be turned around..!!..

There were bald spots in most fairways and some greens. Pace of play was terrible (over 5 hours).

Hard to get to but Beautiful! Mostly all straight flat fairways, 1 fun uphill 3 par, clean carts, and animals galore! Deer of all sizes lounging around, a squirrel eating coyote, a dog, a horse. Next to river, walkways, residents. Music on patio on occasion.

Ancil Hoffman is a classic old school golf course in a park, but there are currently lots of bare spots in the fairways and some of the greens have bad spots, as well. Six weeks ago, the course was in great condition. I realize its been hot, but water isn’t regulated this Summer, and most Sac-area courses are in good/great condition.

It was a very hot, slow and frustrating day at the golf course. I was paired up with a young man who claimed he has played about a year but insisted on playing the blue tee which is about 6500+ yards. He hit two tee balls off the first tee, both went about 50 yards. He then chunked his best ball about eight times before he finally reached the putting green where he three putted! It was liked this for the rest of the round. Needless to say, our foursome was behind on every hole. The course conditions were not the best with many burned out and bare spots on the fairways and putting greens. Very frustrating round of golf!

Somebody needs to be fired for what’s happened to this course. The greens have been destroyed, the fairways burnt and now muddy and tees are as bad as any in town. So sad because this used to be the best public course in town.

Ancil offers the right amount of complexity without being unfair. Greens are true. Tee boxes a bit worn on spots.

Green side bunkers had wet hard sand less than 1 inch. 5+ hours round

I've played this course for over 45 years....and not have played in the last 3 years....I returned and found the conditions of the care very dissapointing. This included fairways and greens......many dry and dead parts of fairways and greens.....

I’ve been playing Ancil Hoffman for many years and have always enjoyed it but recently several times now the play has been incredibly slow. I regard any round over 4.5 hours slow. The most recent round was well over 5 hours! The player ambassador seem to just drive around doing nothing. (I am an ambassador at another very popular public course in the area and we shoot for 4.25 hour rounds) I asked him if he could do any to speed play up and he just laughed.

Something needs to be done there. Possibly more forward tee boxes for some.
