Slow Greens/Perfect weather
Highlights: nice layout, challenging in some areas, perfect weather, pleasant staff (especially golf assistants in the field).
Downers: poor greens (lots of divots, extremely slow or inconsistent speeds), beer caddy never came by (saw once in beginning...not to be seen again), carts have no GPS.
All in all we had a decent round, but the weather made the day!
Ain't that bada bing
I take some of the blame knowing it's that time of year and for not checking first. But, the course should have provided an "Alert" to the Golf Now network that they just punched the greens. The rest of the course was pretty nice as usual. The good news is the course was all but deserted so we still had fun and were provided plenty of excuses for poor play. The green quality is normally excellent and the value is good so the drive from South Sacramento is worth it. There's no on area water buckets or restrooms so plan ahead. The Marshall brings water but provides only a small cup.
Tucked away gem
Check in man at front desk was fantastic, helpful and friendly. Cart man is always friendly. Nice staff. Course is always in good condition and a go to course in my Rota
Great Golf
Really enjoyed the day. Hadn't played Cherry Island in about 4 years, It was good to be back. The course is beautiful but the fairways were pretty wet in some areas. The greens were a little inconsistent but played true. Pretty easy to recover from a bad shot. Looking forward to the next time.
Cherry is sweet!
more character than a few country clubs in the area!
One if the best in the Sacramento region
I live this course, beautiful design lots of trees fast and challenging greens. The bunkers have great fluffy sand and tbe fair ways are nicley mowed. Excellent deal for the greens fee.
Cherry Island Is An Excellent Course Requiring You To Plan Your Shots
I played Cherry Island (CI) as part of a tournament. First, their staff helped organize the tournament excellently. During play they were also very helpful. I was impressed with the condition of the courise as it was lush. The greens were excellent and receptive to shots. I forgot how large their greens are so you need to play you shot in or you could have a monster putt on many greens. I still was stymied by number 9 hole as it may be one of the harder par 5s. It requires you to plan each shot to avoid all the huge oak trees. The retail golf shop is also one of the better ones in the valley, but was severely disappointed that they had no women's clubs as I was planning to buy a set for my wife's birthday. The shop is definitely not women friendly.
A spriing day!
The weather was outstanding and the course was in great shape.
Pace of Play
We were a twosome and the pace was great until the 8th hole. Two guys who were oblivious to their surroundings played so slow it was indescribable. We couldn't believe what we were seeing. Finally the Marshall came up to us on the 11th tee after talking with the two idiots in the fairway. Unfortunately the Marshall didn't do anything. This is why people don't play golf. If the Marshalls won't do their job there is no reason to go back there. We quit after 14 holes
Asked a Marshall to speed up play for the group ahead, were told play was slow due to another group two tees ahead. Found out this not true as no other group were ahead. We abandoned play due to 5hr round. Very frustrating
What a Jem!
Very cool layout with many tricky shots! If I played it a second time it may just get 5 stars because of the many different ways to approach just about all the holes on the course. Greens are superb with multiple levels and tricky swoopy putting.
This has been a very wet spring and the course is in great shape with lots of color and growth.
Great staff that take pride in a nifty, very reasonably priced, local track. Congrats!
Rustic golf
Decent course, with heavy local following. Removed from other courses thus heavy influx of locals. Appears no dress code ,however that is becoming the norm everywhere. Course conditions are good and layout is somewhat interesting. A good alternative course ranking on par with other Sacramento area layouts.
Well kept course
I just get to lose lots of balls since there are lots of low height bushes surrounding roughes. This is a fun course with challenges of little creeks.
