A Cherry of a Gem
This is a course that requires a premium on club selection and shot placement. Driving accuracy off the tee is vital to setting up GIR approach shots. The course is full of large mature trees just waiting to catch off line shots. Most greens are heavily guarded by well placed bunkers. The greens are undulating and fall lines were hard for me to determine (Probably just me). Oh, by the way, there are streams running across the fairways forcing a risk/reward option of laying up or going for it. I played in a light wind and it would be hard for me to imagine playing in 15-20 mph gusting winds. I recommend you try your skill and luck on this course.
Easter
Played course for first time. Rough was a little tough. Fairways and greens for sure.
Could not ask for better golf experience
Staff is extremely helpful, course is in great shape, greens run true. What else can I say. All three of us had a great round of golf at Cherry Island.
Thanks to the staff.
Great course, slow play
I played on a nice day and found the course to be in really good shape, especially the greens. My tee time was 12:36 the front 9 was pretty open, however the back 9 was like a parking lot...20--25 mins. per hole. Normally that is unexceptable AND there was no marshall to keep play flowing....but the great $10.00 (GolfNow) price, which included a cart, allowed me to skip ahead a couple holes and I finished right at dark. I will play here again, only earlier in the day, or I'll just play 9 hole.
nice course
staff friendliness us over the roof. the guy with the long hair gas an amazing attitude. pls maintain this staff friendliness that other courses dont have...
great course and staff. Greens were awesome
Went with golf now. My partner and I were not on the starter sheet. Luckily we did get to play. The hold up... we finished in the dark Had a really fun day otherwise
Great greens
Zero wait. Greens were in great shape. Rolled true.
Decent Course
Course was fine. I play this course a few times a year. Pace of play was pretty backed up this time around, which has become the norm last few times I played. Greens were ok. They usually play fast, these ones needed some care, as there were quite a bit of divits.
Great staff and true greens for a great price
Saw that they had availability on a Sunday afternoon so decided to tee off, course is kind of dry because of the drought but greens are in great condition, especially for the cost of a round. The staff here is the best and most friendly in the area.
Cherry Island
I played this course over twenty years ago and I didn't like it. They have since switched the two nines and the funky first hole which was a dog legged right par four is now the tenth hole par three. The course is in good shape but there are still several corky holes that you need to know where to go or to lay up. The windy conditions made club selection problematic. The pace of play was good unless you happened to follow a group of walkers. The greens were some of the best I have played in the area and the ball rolled true. However, the bunkers were in need of maintenance, at least they have sand in them and it seemed that on one bother to rake them. By the way, there is no drinking water on the course but a staff member was driving around with a cooler so that one can at least fill up one's water bottle. Overall it was an okay experience for me but I am not sure it is worth a return trip.
Greens were pure
I found a very good deal at Cherry Island and the pace of play was solid. Luckily, wasn't stuck behind foot golfers . The Greens are in fantastic shape with the fairways a bit burnt out in spots(obvious reason). I really enjoy playing this course, however, on 3 of the par 5's I have to hit iron or hybrid off the tee because of the layout with hazards all around the landing zone with driver. I'm not used to that being the case at any course, let alone 3 times, little funky, but not the end of the world. Course is great value and will playit again.
Well thought out
This course is cleverly designed, challenging and fun. The staff is friendly and professional. The course and greens are overall in good/very good condition. The driving range is sub par at best, however the short game area is excellent. Highly recommend. I will be returning to play.
cherry Island is OK
Played course in 4 hours. Like the course. Greens were in good shape but soft. Traps had actual sand! Lot of brown grass---no surprise given drought. A lot of forced layups off tees. For $53 a decent deal.
COURSE WAS IN SUPERB SHAPE
THIS IS THE FIRST ROUND IN RECENT MEMORY WHERE WE NEVER WAITED ON ANY SHOT, NOR WERE PRESSURED FROM BEHIND. WHAT A TREAT! AS I NOTED, THE COURSE WAS WELL GROOMED, BOTH FAIRWAYS AND GREENS. CHERRY ISN'T MY CUP OF TEA: LACKS CONTOURS, AND REALLY HAS NO HOLES WITH "CHARACTER."
Very nice, but slow
First time playing course. I'm a beginner and found it to be very challenging, but fun at the same time. Many hazards. Staff was friendly and came around regularly with water.
I thought going at 3pm in 91 degree weather would be a faster paced time. I was wrong.
The guy in the pro shop was very nice when checking me in.
The only complaint I have is that I only got through 11 holes in 3 hours. I gave up while waiting for the 12th hole.
The guy in the pro shop was very accommodating and apologetic. I will be back!
Worth the drive to play
Friendly staff, good pace of play for a Sunday afternoon. Marshall's offered water on course during a very warm day. Course in good condition, well maintained.
This is a very enjoyable course
I have played Cherry Island many times and have enjoyed each round. The course is always in great condition and the staff is very friendly. It offers challenges to the more advanced players if they take the risk.
Cherry Isand is fun!
This was a great course with plenty of fun par 3s. There are a few holes that need to be layed-up so before I play here again I will check yardages to hazards so I'll have a clue. Course was in great condition.
This course is always in great shape
I just love the greens on this golf course they're always fast and roll true. The fairways are always cut nice and even the rough is tended to. Yesterday's staff was great and really nice they had put me together with a group that one individual was a begginer and it took him 8 shots just to reach my one and I even suggested to him to tee it forward to the red tees which he refused so I quit after nine holes. I went back to the pro shop to turn in the handicapped flag and on my way I seen the individual that checked me in and told him what had happened and he said he was sorry and that he didn't know I told of not how could so he told to go inside and ask for Ben and he would give me a rain check on the other nine just great an awesome and decent person. This golf course is less than 10 mins from my home but I don't play it as much as I would like and I really want to join the men's club but they tend to be not minority friendly especially the older gentleman the younger men are cool. My group always get followed on every hole by the Marshall every time we come here. We are all Black men but we're all educated and have great jobs one works for the State Tax Franchise Board another U.S. Supervisor of Nursing in the mental ward at a major hospital another was just giving the State award of best Supervisor in the State he works for the State with a big staff responsible for hiring people for all the major jobs in Sacramento and myself I served in the U.S. Navy for 25 yrs as a SAR DIVER(search and rescue) also I'm a battle worn and battle injured with a Purple Heart among other ribbons and medals. We all shoot from the mid 80's to the high 70's so you could just imagine our feelings for being followed like we done something wrong. It is shame to say but we all drive either a Benz, a Volvo, a BMW and cars like that a year to two old but when the people see us putting our clubs away then the have the nerve o speak. But yesterday those young men restored faith and promise to me that the next generation want hold such prejudices.
Not what you would expect
Great layout and the fairways and greens are almost always in great shape but the driving range is pretty torn up. Brand new golf carts are really nice but no longer have on-board GPS. Foot golfers are allowed on the course after 12:00 noon and they and their small children have no clue about the etiquette of real golf or the dangers of being hit by a golf ball, and no attempt is made to enlighten them. When asked, the staff said, if you accidentally hit one of them it's not your fault, they are there at their own risk, but it can be a real distraction.
