Recently moved to OC area and trying to play courses out here....
RSJ is a pretty good course and better than most in pricing for the weekend. Course itself needs more work along the fairways, too dry, patches of dirt and not getting rewarded for not hitting the fairways...rough is good and thick, putting greens does not give you true roll, too thick and or spongey...overall was a good round, cart lady making her rounds often is a plus and food on the turn was good too
Rancho San Joaquin - over priced
The course has an average layout with some interesting holes but the fairways are horrible and the greens are too soft. Play is slow. The course should be shuts down for a season to allow the fairways to recover. Definitely not worth the money.
Trash course
This course is in terrible condition. The tee boxes are long, fairways are mostly sand and dirt covered with green paint, bunkers have weeds in them, greens are painted and sandy. It’s unbelievable that they could be open with the course in such bad shape. I tried this course again thinking last year was bad timing but it disappointed me again. Don’t be fooled by the pictures on the website or on GolfNow. The course looks nothing like the pictures. I play twice a week and would recommend staying away from this place.
Enjoyed the course
I have stopped by a couple of times but this is my first time playing. It always looked like just a flat municipal course with not too much variation. I played it and was pleasantly surprised, fun course to play, great greens. I played with some locals that were fun to play with.
Should be cheaper
A lot of trash on the course, mud and not as well kept for the price.
Course conditions were terrible
Greens were decent everything else was trash. Fairways covered in dirt turds. Sand traps were shot over growing with weeds. No warning of the conditions. General manager was a total tool. Unlikely I’ll be back.
Still a ways to go
Been coming to OC for pass 10 years and have always played RSJ at least once. There has been improvement each year but not necessarily on the course itself
The greens are excellent. Challenging but role true with very few if any bad spots. Tee boxes are still hit and miss but better each year. Fairways still need work. There are some bunkers that have grass growing in them and with very little sand
The pace of play has gotten worse and the “Ambassadors” do very little to encourage golfers to maintain position with the group in front of them
Price is a marketable factor. At $90 with cart course does not compare favorably with Strawberry (about $125) or Mile Square ($ 60-75) but it is CA. Which is why I visit but don’t reside
Great value and a nice course
Relatively easy to play, but with some challenging greens and water. Ideal for intermediate players and good value for money!
MUCH improved
Ranch is much improved and the management should be congratulated for investing in fixing up the course and the fairways. Its in the best shape I’ e seen it in in YEARS. Dead dry patches in the fairways sodded and regrown, well kept, greens in great shape. I will definitely start playing here more again.
It was an ok outing but Marshall needs to chill out.
We played Saturday and the round started off smooth. We had a group in front that needed some holes to warm up - our group was playing at the pace the front group will allow, then on the 4th hole, they all must of bombed their drives, because when we got to the tee box, they hit their approach shots and were headed for the green, then the Marshall comes up to us and tells us that we’re 3 holes behind… like what??? So we picked up our pace and guess what… we ended up waiting on hole 5 because we were not 3 holes behind… didn’t understand the marshal why he would say something us that wasn’t true. 3 Asians and one white guy in our group and guess who the Marshall said this too - not the white guy but us. I went to UC Irvine and I’m not surprised.
