4 Hours and 45 min. Says it all.
Slow Pace of play destroys all good things about golf. Once again, the pace of play at this course is unbearable. Played on a Tues. at 11.30 AM. It wasn't one or two groups slowing everyone up...It was every group that teed up for 2 hours before us. When this happens time and time again, it points to one and only one problem with the course : Management.
The greens were plugged and the staff gave no notice of this. Our putts were erratic due to the green conditions. No discounts were offered.
Good course and helpful staff. The greens were recently plugged leading to erratic putts and additional stokes. We did not receive any notice or discounts for the course conditions. It would have been nice to know about the conditions of the greens.
Maybe Mark Twain was right about Golf?
After my most recent round at Rancho San Joaquin, I am starting to understand Mark Twain's quote when he wrote:
“Golf is a good walk spoiled.”
5 1/2 hours is beyond slow play no matter how patient one is.
The management continues to overbook and stack foursome (and even fivesomes) in order to increase revenue.
And, the course is starting to have more bare and poorly kept areas throughout fairways. Only the putting greens were decent.
Even with the lower green fees, it does not feel like a bargain.
Cart path only
Don't bother with the cart you will do more walking if your in one. Almost every hole was cart path only. It's over priced for what it is.
Way too expensive for the conditions and design
Wont be back. Insane to charge $95 for this subpar pubic course. Grass conditions are awful, sand is hard dirt, entire course smells rotten. Greens were fine. Seems they put the money into off course landscaping with new flowers around the clubhouse.
A Slow Walk in Hades?
I'm usually suspicious of 'poor' reviews on courses I've played before when they have not matched my experience.
In short, Rancho San Joaquin has certainly taken a turn for the worse.
While it is a decent and moderately challenging layout with nice restaurant amenities two things have occurred in the last several months:
1) The course has fallen on very poor conditions (dry areas, overly wet areas, bare spots). The greens were fairly consistent though--mostly good condition.
2) They are stacking groups up with very little time between each tee off.
As a result, my last (2) rounds were both 5 1/2 hours.
What made our round particularly miserable was a combination of a slow playing foursome and FIVEsome (yep) in front of us. Combined with the 91-degree weather that day, well, it was a tough day.
RSJ has potential for a comeback if Management can get their act together.
Let's hope they get the message.
Pace of play
It took us 6 hours to play 18 holes! It was a joke! That place overbooks every time we play there! Never going again!!!!!😖😖😖😖😖😖
It was fun but had to leave at 14
I love playing this course but it just gets slow sometimes. The starter keeps things moving but we started stacking 3 groups at the box after the back 9. There was an old group (not trying to hate) but they should have been playing an executive. Also group in front of us had people playing the gold back tips and really should have been at the very front tips. I never get that. How much better do you feel from the back if you duff every shot and have to pick up where the front tips are. I just wish this course had someone come around to speed things up. I always find it ironic that in the cart is posted rules and ways to speed things up. It’s so dead on but nobody pays attention to it. I just left early because I couldn’t bear to wait with so many groups in front stacked on the tee box. If you have 5+ hours and want to be in your phone for 10-15 a hole waiting then it’s a fun track that’s wide open. I just see why people either play somewhere cheaper or pay more to go somewhere that keeps play going. I’ll always be back but only when discounted because I’m either gonna play the front 9 or otherwise it’s too slow. A+ on the food and cart girl came by multiple times
Not worth $84
Course is in rough shape, greens were good but fairways were either muddy or dirt. Defiantly not worth $84 a round
Best conditions I’ve seen in a while / pace of play decent too
Really love this course because it’s an ego boost from the blue. I always shoot near my best here and have had many memorable shots like a par 4 Eagle hole out from 160 out and hole par hole out birdie from 60 to a clapping ramp crowd. Conditions and Pace usually are suspect and I felt this was the best day I’ve played here. Conditions were great and the pace wasn’t too bad. We had a 5 some in front of us with what appeared to be a younger Korean guy teaching/baby sitting 4 elderly Koreans how to hack. That’s fine but they just took so long to put. On the back 9 I had to tell them to hurry it along and the younger guy understood and stated running off but he couldn’t get the group to understand pace of play. That added an extra 30 minutes for sure and there was nobody in front of them. Sounds bad but I’ve been here when it’s much worse. Love grabbing some kimbab or burger at the turn. Just wish marshal would show up to speed things along better. I think the price point here keeps newbies away but not expensive enough to keep slow seniors away. Marshall actively pushing along would be a god send
