Very Slow Round
Started 15 minutes late and round took over 5 hours from then.
NB muni best
With limited public courses in the area our group played all three and this is the best of the bunch.
Challenging course priced right had it as our first choice.
Would play it again if back in Newport.
Pace of Play
This course routinely has tee times scheduled way to close. This will be last time playing here, it took 2:45 minutes to play 9 holes.
Location is perfect. Mehh layout.
All my golfing buddies live in HB, CM, and Irvine so this course is convenient for everyone since it is in the middle. We like to slap the ball around on weekends like every other red blooded golfers but it isn't like we are exploding with excitement to play this course. It's not great, it's not bad, it's just meh.
Pace of play
I paid $40 which is fair price for the course. Was paired up with one other guy and we Finished the round just under 2 hours which is great. Partner left after 9 so I played Holes 10-13 alone and it took me an over an hour. Ambassador wasn't really effective out there. Just stood around chatting. But for $40 on a weekday with that slow of pace is not my idea of a nice day off. Waiting 5-10 minutes behind my ball, between shots, and then waiting 10+ minutes to tee off at 13 which is a Par 3 is too slow. I left before teeing off at 14 after waiting another 10 minutes.
Slow Play
too many groups, booked too close together made for extremely slow play. 6 hour round. marshall did nothing about the slow playing groups in front.
Great value, great greens
Nice layout, great and challenging greens, played in 4 hours !
The rate of play makes this very frustrating to play. I've played here a few times and each round was over 6 hours. Do not play if you're trying to get in a quick round. The positives are the greens are in good shape and the course layout is fun. Also, the clubhouse has good beers.
Good layout, but a little beat up
Good course for couples and high handicappers. Open fairways. Pace is a little slow, but still overall good value.
Played a few times
The course itself is great, lots of doglegs and gets challenging. I've never finished a full 18 holes there yet. Pace of play on this course is ridiculously slow every time I have played. Took us 45 minutes to play 2 holes this visit. Waiting on every tee box and fairway. Ambassadors need to get out and do their job. This place is a 6 hour round of golf and that's unacceptable. The price is unbeatable for the level of course if pace of play would be on point.
Rough was extreamly deep for a public course. You had to be standing on top of your ball in order to find it if you were in the rough. Then it was almost a stroke penalty just trying to get out of the rough. Rough begin just off the fairways on most par 4s. Pin placements weren't friendly either. Can't imagine the average golfer playing here and enjoying their round under these conditions unless your out there with some buds having a few beers and hacking the ball around.
Playing Rancho
Due to recent weather, the Course was wet as expected. The fairways were still very wet. The Greens were in great condition as they always are. This is a wide open course that all levels of Golfers can play.
The poorest of conditions
If the Irvine Company still owns this they should be ashamed and embarrassed the condition of the course while not good with the weather conditions has been extremely bad the last couple rounds
Quite possibly the worst conditioned course in California
Played eight holes in 2 an a half hours under terrible conditions but the price almost makes up for it
If I was in Barstow !
Needs TLC
Course conditions challenged with poor draining that creates large puddles and other inconveniences. The course seems over priced for the quality; at $10 less this would be reasonable value.
Could be fun if rounds were faster
The course is in pretty good shape, greens are quick, but too bumpy. Pace of play is the slowest in the County. It took 5 1/2 hours, their excuse was it was mid-week between the Holidays. Unfortunately, it's that way every time we play there no matter the day or time of play. We had a 10:30 tee time and didn't tee off until after 11:00, ridiculous. Finished at 4:45.
Terribly slow pace of play
We had a 12:37 PM tee time and arrived at the course 30 minutes before our tee time. We were advised of a 20 minute
delay, which worked out anyway because no carts available. Ahead of us was a 5-some and ahead of them a group of Jr Golfers. We teed of at 1 PM and experienced 5 -10 minute delays due to backup on every hole. As darkness descended at 4:50 PM we called it a day after only playing 12 holes. We would needed 6 hours to complete the round at that pace. On the positive side, the grounds keepers did a good job of draining the course from recent rains and the greens were in good condition. Don't book any afternoon tee times if you expect to complete the round.
