Great value and wonderful golf course
We had a perfect day at LP. Weather was awesome not too much wind. Golf course conditions were very good. Only complaint is the tee boxes could be a little better. The greens were very good, fast, rolled pure and very healthy. Pace of play was 3.5 hrs and wide open at 12:30. Definitely recommend checking this course out. Don't be scared of the wind or the length, just play an appropriate tee and enjoy the quietness and beautiful hilslide beauty. I shot 83 with three triples....oops.
Great Vistas
This is a wide open course with a lot of elevation changes and beautiful views.. The course was in average shape. The greens were excellent, and the fairways were OK, but the tees, the sand traps, the cart paths, and the rough needed work. My biggest complaint was that on too many holes the greens were on the top of a hill and you could not see what you were hitting to.
La Purisima
Played the blues (6670/73.1/136) with RGM2525 in 4 hours on a GolfNow Hot Deal for $24.49 including a cart. Teed of @ noon on our 2nd 18 of the day. We did not wait a shot all afternoon, in beautiful, windy, partly cloudy weather around 70 degrees.
First off, the whole course looked much better than it did the last time I played here several years ago.
The greens putted nice, medium fast and held approach shots well.
The fairways had good coverage. There were a couple of juniors out on divot damage patrol, which was sorely needed on many fairways.
The rough was mostly lush with occasional hardpan or thin lies. It would go from not too bad, to thick and hard to advance more than a short iron to lost ball or hardpan in relatively small areas.
The traps were well maintained with nice sand.
Many of the tees were chewed up and a few could really use leveling. Not up to the standards of the rest of the course.
The customer service was excellent, they got us right out when we arrived ahead of our prepaid tee time. No drink cart person.
This course is VERY unforgiving on crooked shots, you can accumulate penalty shots in bunches here if you are more than about 10 yards left or right of almost any fairway. Many holes have hazards down one or both sides. Many holes have elevation changes and forced carries over hazards, and it is often windy to very windy. This is not a course for beginners.
If you want to be challenged, this is a very picturesque course that is usually not super crowded. This layout absolutely eats me alive like no other course I have ever played. Good thing I putted very well today, or an ugly round could have been positively grotesque.
Great Value for the Money !
Wonderful golf course no slow play, no rush, good players come to this course witch is good. The course is in nice shape, challenging greens fun fairways. If you're in the area please do your self a favor and come to play La Purisima best golf Course in the area and best value for the money!
Best course on central coast
I have played la Purisima a few times.
Every time I come away feeling like I have played on a real man's golf course.
This course was made for serious the golfer.
Bring your A game or you will get put in your place. This is where you find out what caliber you really are. My favorite course.
Top notch
One of the best courses in California. Amazing undulating terrain. If you want to test your game and enjoy top notch quality turf, play here.
Gorgeous green rolling hills and mighty oaks
This course was picturesque. The greens were in great shape and even after a day of down pouring rain the fairways held up enough that they allowed cart golf. Enjoyable day. Great course.
La Purisima
La Purisima is a challenging course. Expect to lose a few balls and shoot 10 shots higher than normal. That being said, the course is fair and the views are terrific. Each hole demands that you hit at least one great shot. There are not many flat holes so factoring in elevation changes is a must when selecting which club to hit. Plays extremely difficult when windy. Novices beware!
where's the next freakin hole
Had a great time playing la purisma for the first time. It's s challenging cou r se regardless of tee box. Lots of elevation difference to account for and good movement on the greens as well. The only complaint I could mention was that if ding where the next tee box is located can be a shot in the dark and a small amount of signage or rope would be useful to first timers like I was.
Beautiful but Dangerous!
La Purisima is a beautiful course set in the Oak lined hills north of Santa Barbara. But don't be lulled to sleep by it's beauty, the tight fairways become even skinnier when the winds pick up, and reaching these small, undulating greens from the rough can be impossible. The GPS system on the carts are lacking detail, so bring your Laser (and tour guide). The greens are smooth and fast and avoid the bunkers.
Scenery
Nice scenic views. Course condition very nicely kept. Friendly maintenance staff on the course,
La Purisima
always a challenge to play this course in the afternoon, totally different course in the morning, you have an afternoon wind that makes this course totally different, always great condition though!!!!!!
Challenging and fun
Some holes are difficult for first time players. I doesn't hurt to pair up with an experienced player who can advise what to avoid
Bring your "A" game
Challenging to reach the greens. But once there the putting conditions were fantastic. Carry a few extra balls.
Enjoyable golf in Lompoc
The course is is vary good condition and it has a good variety of short and long holes. This is a course that it helps to have played a few times since there are a number of blind tee shots. Also, even with the gps it can be difficult to see where some of the greens are. Also, the signage could be better between greens and tees. All that aside the course is enjoyable to play and during the week it is not crowded. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We definitely would play this course again the next time we are in the area.
Peripheral Upkeep and Signage Could Be Better
I had a very good time at this course over the past weekend. However, I do feel that the areas surrounding the holes could be better maintained. There are few directions on where to head after each hole and instead of a cart path there was simply dirt to drive on in most cases. This leads to confusion and bumpy rides (where clubs can be damaged). Overall though, I had a more than decent time.
lots of dog legs
Beware!! La Purisima has many dog leg holes, Which will challenge even the best of golfers, Fairway shot placement will be key to lower scores. Also, I recommend a cart.(next hole tees are a good walk away). Nice Course overall, Have fun!
Best value in California
La Purisima is the overall best course in Ca. No frills. Just come play golf on a great tough/fair course. In otherwise brown and dead Ca LP is green and the greens excellent. On those hot summer/fall days LP is a cool refreshing treat. Who cares if the course eats your lunch 90% of the time. It's beautiful, reasonable and fun.
Beautiful Scenery from the heights
Played this course because of a recommendation of a friend who is a 2 handicap. I'm a 9 and played from the blues and found it pretty difficult . . . though if I had hit my driver better it might not have been such a challenge. Maybe I should have played the white tees. My wife had a good round from the reds. Most of the sand traps were easy enough to get out of, but some were wet and almost packed muddy. The cart paths were in most places dirt tracks and had lots of pot holes . . rather bumpy. Did not see a bar . . . ???
Always love the piranha
