About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

Fairways in bad condition, greens like rocks
Last time I played this course was about 5 years ago. It was in great shape. Today when I played, I was shocked at the condition. The fairways were dry and brown and hard as rocks. Mostly dirt with a little grass. Greens were hard and sandy. Not sure why they all had sand on them when they weren't aerated. The putting green was lightening fast, nice and green but full of sand. The course greens were much slower than the putting green. They had a groundskeeper driving around the greens with a metal mesh screen like they use on the infield of baseball fields to smooth out the sand. Why? Greens on the back nine were much greener than the front nine. Don't understand the disparity of the greens. My cart"s battery was weak as it stumbled up the hill to the 13th hole. I was afraid it wasn't going to make it. Just felt disappointed at the conditions
Pin placement was odd. A lot of the pins were set only several places from the edge of the green, and some were set almost on mounds so it's impossible to even get close, even from 50 yards or less.

Fairways are a bit bare but still a good and challenging course
Have played here quite a bit and it’s always a challenge for a mid (me) or high handicapper. Lots of trouble if you don’t hit it straight or true and the back 9, while not very long, has some narrow fairways, elevation changes, etc. The fairways didn’t have a lot of grass which was somewhat disappointing but still playable and I’m guessing in a couple of weeks it’ll be fine.

Needs some work
Really like this challenging course layout! Fringe around the greens are lacking compared to most courses in the area. The course did drain well after a lot of rain and some rain during the round. Greens in good shape.

Slow play
With all the people playing golf now days I believe courses need to have marshals on the course. I did not see one Marshall on this course. The foursome in front of us started 30 minutes before we teed off. We caught them on the 4th hole. The last 14 holes took us 5 hours. Every hole waiting and watching the foursome in front go thru their pre and post shot routine. This is not the pga folks. Please get Marshall’s out on the course to instruct newbies as well as veteran golfers how to play in 4 -4.5 hours.

Beautiful but.....
Could be a beautiful course, however All fairways were nothing but dirt.

Unsafe at Ego-driven Whitney Oaks
Charge for solo cart then force you to sit with someone you don’t know in a shared cart with a flimsy piece of plastic in between! Not CDC standard and unsafe- especially when the starter and field marshal don’t wear masks and walk right up on you to bark in your face. I see it all over the PGA too... shameful!

Although the fairways were dormant Bermuda grass (and therefore browned out) the greens were in great shape. The course was challenging but fun.
