About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

Sloppy conditions
stay away in the winter time. fairway grass is dormant, bunkers were piled high with mounds of new sand that needed to be evenly raked. greens and tee boxes in good shape.

Great Time
Friendly staff. Carts were available to us 11:00 AM on a Sunday.. Teed off on time.. Played in 4:20. Very little waiting.. Golf course was in very good condition. Beer on the patio after. Overall great experience.

Just Ok
The course is challenging regardless of conditions - that's a given. On the positive, they are in the process of replacing/adding sand. Much needed and in the bunkers I ended up finding they were in great shape.
The biggest issue is with the bermuda fairways which have been cut too low so that the ball runs and runs and runs and runs. This is great of course on a course that has fairways that don't run in out of bounds areas... that is not the case for WOaks. Many holes need precision landing and with that the case I'd rather see the fairways grow out so that a ball doesn't act like it is on wood flooring. I had some chip shots that were really difficult, no room for error, do to this.
The greens are fast, as always, and mostly true. Overall,
I didn't play my best golf but I do think the fairways need the most attention, aside from the bunkers which are getting some love now.

This course will make you speak another language if not in the fairways. Some holes are unique. Just fun to play

Slow this round
Usually it's not a problem at this course but the group in front of the group in front of us was very slow resulting in a 5:hour round. I saw one of the guys in front of us in the parking lot after the round and his remark. 5 HOURS! TOO SLOW!
It's a great course and while challenging. It is very enjoyable when closer to a 4 to 4:15 total time. I know it's a sensitive issue but a course ranger could gently remind a group if they are not keeping pace with the group in front of them. I didn't see any rangers on the course that day.

Different with unusual topography
It's a course one needs to play a few times to understand it. Greens are very fast downhill. Greens good, but players don't fix ball marks. Pace of play was slow.
