Babe Zaharias Golf Course
About
Located just 20 minutes from downtown in the Forest Hills section of Tampa, Babe Zaharias Golf Course meanders through a tree-lined residential neighborhood. nice public course
Met by friendly starter and staff. Got off early and finished in less than 4 hours. Course is in good condition, but tee boxes need seeding. Back 9 has 3 holes over 410 yard par 4's. Challenging course for intermediate golfer.
Golf 3/7/2014
We had good time we had a very slow group in front of us but that is. Not the fault of the course. It was in great shape considering thre rain day before
quite nice
The Babe may be short but it does not lack challenges. Many holes are flanked by neighborhood streets so it's easy to hit your tee shot OB. The course was in pretty good condition and the pace of play was fast.
Babe Zaharias
Friendly staff, nice course and good food. Played 18 holes on a beautiful day. Overall course conditions are good and the greens are fast. I like this course and will be playing here again.
Nice course
I enjoyed our round of golf, just wish the course was in St pete. Not worth the drive through Tampa.
Disrespectful person
We had a single player in front of us who was laying two balls from different parts of course ex blue tees then white tees
Different sides of green
We were held up for the entire back nine we played leading to others catching up to us
Would not mind if he was out on course by himself but his actions held us up
Never saw a ranger the whole 18 we played
Really liked course challenging yet fair
Will return hope the other guy doesn't,t
This course was fun it was in great shape
This was a nice course . The fairways were in great shape and the greens proved to be challenging....the staff was great the carts were in great shape
Great value for good course
two thumbs up for all areas. Nice layout in residential Tampa
wonderful golf course
was not busy and got on and moved thru in good time, did not have anyone press from behind us as has happened recently and the greens are great and staff was great especially Karla
Your typical TSA course
Seems like every 18-24 months I venture out to either Babe Zaharias, Rocky Point or Rogers Park with my golf clubs. My expectations are always low and each experience keeps the bar at ankle level…including this most recent one. Upon arrival in the pro shop, my reservation was not "in their system" despite booking it almost 90 minutes prior on GolfNow.com and producing the confirmation number to the employee. When I finally got onto the course, I found it in fair condition in some areas and very average or worse in others. My back nine was interesting as I waited five minutes for sprinklers to shut off on one Par 3 and I didn't play anything after my tee shot on the 18th because workers and their equipment/materials were spread out over half the fairway from 150 yards in. The layout is inconsistent and the only character this course has is the tacky chain link fences that border about five tee boxes. While I'm not a big hitter, I played the back tees because those boxes were in the best shape and playing anything less basically makes this an executive course. Perhaps if ownership had negotiated a better lease with their pro football tenant, they'd have more money to put into their golf properties to make them worthwhile.
outstanding
this course is not a long course however it is a course where hitting to location is key...
Nice course to play on quick notice
It is a failry easy course with a lot of strait fairways.
This course had great features
Really glad the course was dry. Had a great time getting around on a dry course during this rainy summer.
best ive ever seen it
Ive played the babe a handful of times and this was by far the best condition I have ever seen it in. Greens were rolling smooth and it wasnt too wet like a lot of the other area courses.
Great deal for the money
Conditions at the course were great for the expectations that I had. Greens were good, a bit challenging. Overall we had a good time and enjoy the "character" the course offers.
Good deal!
The course needs 1 more par 5
Needs more par 5's. no room for error. The staff was very very friendly though.
Greens are spotty
All in all, for a $12.00 round, Babe Zaharias is a fun course to play with minimal grade and cool dog legs. The greens could be maintained a little better but all in all for the price was a fun course.
Almost broke an 80 which is quite rare for me.
Good value for a public course owned by the city
I am not the best golfer by far. I just enjoy getting out there and the challenge of improving my play. The Babe is an old Tampa classic, that was left to disrepair and is making its way back. The tee box will be sandy, there is sand all over Florida. The fairways could be better, but they are passable and don't interfere with shots. Trees line the fairways and can snag any shots not hit straight. The greens were a little quick. I played the afternoon a day after one of the hardest rains of the season and didn't encounter any puddles.
Play the weekday afternoons if you can, work on your game, and enjoy the Florida weather, all for a cheap price in my opinion. This course is perfect for that.
