Rocky Point Golf Course
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Would not play again for that price
I wouldn't ever play this course again unless maybe it was around $20-25. The course was weeded and terrible condition. They act as if it is a higher end course and it just is not. Its a smaller course and tighter fairways at times. But the overall condition was extremely poor and I was extremely disappointed. With the prices they charge this course should be a lot nicer. This isnt even close. Also they didnt tell us there was a class at the driving range sold us balls. Supposed to be mats only but everything was extremely packed. They could have mentioned this prior. So we went to the grass to the side and another guy was trying to hit driver in the grass part. A guy comes up yelling and berating all of us as if we were stupid. I get it. But the way he went about things was unprofessional and inappropriate and that is one of the main reasons I wouldnt play again here. Even if the course was in better shape I would have been a little more reluctant to play there because of the lack of customer service and manner this gentlemen displayed himself. Fix your communication skills and your course if you want people to continue to play here. I see why the ratings are low now.
normally on florida courses there are no grass in the fairway but here there were/was plenty of grass. greens were very firm and fast.
we loved the course
Good old course
Its a very well laid out course with challenging holes but easy enough for almost anyone to play. There is water but hey... its Florida!! So relax ! The rates are very fair and if you need rental clubs, you cannot beat Callaway Epic Woods and Rogue irons! They even give you balls and tees. It is a bery good desl!
Slow play ruined the round
There was no Ranger on the course (at least we never saw one).
The group in front of us was more interested in finding balls in the numerous ponds than in playing golf.
I didn't have my cell phone with me, or I would have called the Proshop to complain.
The course has a nice layout, but needs grass on both fairways and ESPECIALLY in the rough.
Nice little muni
Course was in good shape. Greens were rolling not bouncing
Grass driving range was a plus. Pace of play was 4.5 hrs. The carts need help. Torn seats on most of them. The bunkers were in good shape with rakes in them. Fairways a little thin.
A good place to play for the money
Didnt much appreciate the group of 6 players ahead of us. It took 4 and one half hours to play.
Course was fair. It is the type of public course condition one expects this time of season.
Good price. Showed up early. Staff did their best got me off easily. Played first 9 holes in 1&1/2 hours. Second 9 2 hours. 18 holes squeezed together. Holes 15-16-17-18 very challenging makes play go slow. Greens ok, players do not repair there ball marks. Fairways in poor shape. Golf carts had sand repair boxes but no shovels for the sand.
First timer here at Rocky Point. We found the course is very good condition, the greens were excellent.
The course layout is pretty self explanatory, hit to the fairways you’ll be fine.
The staff was great, we enjoyed the day!
Had fun...No significant complaints
After seeing some negative reviews I didn't expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised. We got off on time and finished in a reasonable 4 hours. The course condition was fine for a heavily-played public course, and it offered a lot of fun challenges staying out of the water. Most of the fairways are wide enough for golfers who spray the ball a bit off the tee. Greens were in OK shape (although people were not good at repairing ball marks on the greens). The only minor negative was that the carts are not in good shape. Seats are torn (all in the same spot?), not well equipped, and apparently their mechanic doesn't know how to adjust the brakes.
Played here 3 years ago and liked the course
This year was even better. For a muni good price, great greens and tees. The fairways were in great condition
I will be back
