Rocky Point Golf Course
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Okay course but holes to close to each other so lots of players on your holes.
Pace of play
No ranger to contril start time or pace of play. Greens were super super fast! Made for a long day!
It was great! I got a hot deal discount so it was 15 bucks plus green fee which was like 4 bucks. The best deal ever for 18 holes. I live super close so I'm bias but it's a great coarse with lots of history.
Nothing wrong with this course
Rocky Point rates out at a 3.4 on Golf Now which may be fair, but there is nothing wrong with this course. I disagree with those who say it's not a good value. Yes, it is a little rough around the edges and can play slow due to all the muni golfers, but it is plush tee-to-green, presents a lot of nice challenges for any golfer, and the greens are very nice. Yes there are a lot of ball marks on the greens because of all the hackers, but just fix them and stop whining and you'll be fine. They are very smooth and roll honest. I picked Rocky Point because I was staying at the airport and wanted a decent place to play 18. Rocky Point did not disappoint. Played as a single paired up with two locals. They like the course a lot, so what does that tell you. Playing late December on green grass, how bad can it be. It was a little soggy, some pretty tight lies with the short trimmed winter grass, but very nice track. The back nine does hug the passing highway, so you do have to be careful to not hit into traffic. Is it pristine, manicured, country club golf? No, but it also lacks the snootiness and pompous attitudes of clubs, is very walkable, forgiving but at the same time challenging enough to test your game. I highly recommend!
Course was not in good condition at all. Tee boxes were awfully beaten up and covered in divots. Fairways were patchy with a lot of small divots throughout. Greens were alright all around. Staff should have been a little bit more attentive to the schedule and pace of play for all players on the course.
Tap the ball and it would roll and roll some more. The course was soggy from all the rain but all and all not bad. The greens were in real good shape. The fairways were just okay. No water for drinking yet. no ball washers which were really needed. The guys in front of us were slow..I ate a Hot Dog at the snack bar and it was SUPER. We had fun even if i had a few struggles.
Good vacation golf
Nice course not to far from Tampa airport. The greens were in very nice condition, the fairways & rough need a little bit of work. A few crabgrass spots in the fairways. Overall though not a bad course that will challenge all types of play.
Greens amazing. Fairways nice. Some bare spots but barely. Tee boxes are nicest around. Give this course a shot if you’re around the area. Course came around well.
Louisiana in Tampa
traveled to see family and went to rocky point which was around the corner from their house, was awesome for being a horrible golfer. I havent played in years but had a good time. Lost a few balls in the water but i would def recommend the course and play again.
Fine Municipal Course
Location-wise you can't beat Rocky Point. It's 5 minutes from Tampa International and easily accessible. For being a municipal Rocky Point is in great shape.
Be aware, since it is a public municipal course, it is heavily played. This means crowded on weekends, below average skill level hackers, both of which contribute to a painfully slow round. I would not play here during peak times unless you have a foursome. Also, the fact its heavily played can negatively impact condition of fairways, but not the point where it's unplayable. In fact, for how much the course is played the fairways are in great condition.
The biggest positive about this course are the greens! Greens roll true and better than any other public course in the area. They're receptive and in pretty good condition.
The course is incredible condition! I could not believe how well the entire course is being maintained right now. And the price is about as good it gets around here. Super happy playing there.
