Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Not worth the money
Rocky Point used to be in a lot better shape. The greens were "ok" with some greens better than others, but the fairways were in terrible shape. Not worth the $50 price tag. This is a course you would want to play if you are just learning golf or only play a couple times a year and don't care about the conditions. But you still wouldn't want to pay more than $40 to play with a cart.
Fantastic
This course is a good course for beginner player like myself
Good food at a good price and the greens are in great condition.Best value in town
solid value
Tee to green the course was kind of rough, with the tee boxes being the worst part (please rotate the tee markers occasionally). Fairways and rough were spotty, so we just allowed ourselves to roll it a little and it was fine. The greens were actually really good. Firm, fast, and held good shots. It's a value and availability decision. It's a fair price for under 50, especially with the greens.
Good value, but course isn't in the greatest condition
Only paid $51 per person including cart and tax, so decent value. But if you're looking for a nicely groomed golf course this fell short. Staff was great, club house quite nice and really good food.
Needs some TLC
Fairways and tee boxes are in rough shape, not much turf. Greens were decent. Nice new club house but course really needs some work.
Rocky Point Golf Course
This course had many holes that were fun, but challenging due to water or other obstacles. The course and staff were nice for a shorter course. There is only 2 negatives. The pace of play is very slow and the price is a bit high for the size of this course. I had 4 hours to play and then get to the airport. I was unable to finish all 18 holes.
On a Wednesday, had 5 groups stacked up on Hole 3.
Took 1 hr to play 1st 3 holes. We then skipped over and played the wide open 14-18 holes and left.
Management needs to control pace, and/or spread some groups out on back nine.
Absurd pace for a muddy, 2-3 star municipal level course.
Muni course
I guess you can't expect much from a muni course, but the fairways were mostly dirt and it took over 5 hours to play a round.
tee times bunched too closely. ranger should have more closely monitored pace of play. too many amateurs playing multiple balls and taking too much time searching for balls.
👍
Great day on a good course greens were perfect first time playing here but I will definitely be back for the price
Fun Course
Overall good experience, a bit pricey for a municipal course. Conditions were spotty, inconsistent greens.
Golf Florida
Overall positive experience. Having never played this course, came away impressed for a public, low cost older coursed, Greens excellent and true. Fairways good, not great, not much rough to speak of. Bunker sand not up to par for Florida.
