Babe Zaharias Golf Course
About
Located just 20 minutes from downtown in the Forest Hills section of Tampa, Babe Zaharias Golf Course meanders through a tree-lined residential neighborhood. The golf course measures a modest 6,020 yards, but should not be taken lightly. Although both nines on "The Babe" are par 35, the back side sports four par-4 holes in excess of 400 yards, providing a challenge for golfers of all skill levels.

The course needs 1 more par 5
Needs more par 5's. no room for error. The staff was very very friendly though.
Greens are spotty
All in all, for a $12.00 round, Babe Zaharias is a fun course to play with minimal grade and cool dog legs. The greens could be maintained a little better but all in all for the price was a fun course.
Almost broke an 80 which is quite rare for me.
Good value for a public course owned by the city
I am not the best golfer by far. I just enjoy getting out there and the challenge of improving my play. The Babe is an old Tampa classic, that was left to disrepair and is making its way back. The tee box will be sandy, there is sand all over Florida. The fairways could be better, but they are passable and don't interfere with shots. Trees line the fairways and can snag any shots not hit straight. The greens were a little quick. I played the afternoon a day after one of the hardest rains of the season and didn't encounter any puddles.
Play the weekday afternoons if you can, work on your game, and enjoy the Florida weather, all for a cheap price in my opinion. This course is perfect for that.
Course is in bad shape
This course is in really bad shape for being kept up by the City of Tampa. Greens fees were comparable to that of country club courses. The tee boxes were full of sand, as well as many of the greens. Very poor conditions for what I paid!
The Babe, Old Friend
Old favorite but in rough shape. Have always loved the Babe's layout and ease of play but there is not much grass anywhere but the greens. Wish they could get it to a better state!
I smelled dead people
The course smells like dead animals on most holes. The fairways are indistinguishable from the rough. Probably the worst experience in golf you can have in Tampa.
Good Public Course, well maintained,
We played on a Wednesday afternoon and the course was relatively empty. We got around in about 3 hours. The fairways and greens are currently in better condition than some of the more expensive semi-private courses in the area.
Player friendly course with some challenging holes
Great staff ! Greens in vey good shape, reasonably quick
Long Day
The Babe is a nice local neighborhood course that I enjoy to play. The greens were in great shape and quite quick. The only issue that we had, which was no fault of the course was slow play. We learned from the staff that on Tuesday & Thursday they have league play, which was also compounded by the up north people, who are in Florida enjoying our weather. The Ranger did his best to keep the pace of play reasonable, but it was a long day.
COURSE IS GETTING BETTER, GREENS ARE VERY FAST AND NICE
GREENS ARE SOME OF THE BEST IN TAMPA BAY. ALMOST HIT A HOLE IN ONE ON THE FRONT 9
this course is ok
good course for the price but to many players on course making it very slow ( no marshall )
Excellent little course. Stay in the fairway or you will be challenging.
We enjoyed it. the people were very friendly. Great Time!
great course for beginners like us
Not to hard, didn't have to rush, 1rst game of the year easy enough perfect to retrain ourself.
Great course
Challenging course, not crowded, maintained well. Would go there again.
Municipal course
It is what it is......a municipal course. As many municipalities with budget constraints, recreational facilities take the brunt.
Good Public Course
For the average or beginning golfer, this course is a very good value. Even the mid-level golfers will find several challenges with the course "dog legs" and pin placements.
Excellent conditions for this time of the year!
Greens and fairways properly maintained. Golf carts with no club cleaner and not every hole has a golf ball cleaner as well.
Decently maintained but overpriced
The Babe is The Babe! We played in August during the rain deluge season, primarily because it's typically fairly dry. Not this time! The back nine was closed, Number 1 was a par 3 to allow for new grass on the fairway and Number 7's tee boxes were all in one location--Ladies tee area.
The Babe is always in decent shape and was this time. I typically only play it when other courses are sure to be soggy or when one of my playing mates wants to play there. I simply don't like to pay the price they charge when a better facilty can be found for less and only a few miles away.
