Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Pace
Pace of play was terrible. They allowed a large group of 8 to play together which caused pace of play to be 3 hours for 9 holes. Staff was not very attentive. Fairways were gauged, greens were burnt, and tee box was full of sand.
Great weather great golf
Liked the course greens were immaculate. Traps were too dry and hard to use sand wedges. But great weather and great round, good food and drink excellent Cuban sandwich!
Carts were below par (hehe)
The only gripe I have is about the golf carts - they didn’t have windshields or golf club protectors. I would expect windshields at the minimum since it rains often in Florida. It was windy and a bit rainy towards the end of the round, so our clubs got wet and we had little protection from the rain as the carts do not have windshields. It should be noted that it wasn’t a “cheap” round either.
Staff great, course needed a little work
Staff was great and very helpful but the course needed work. Fairways and rough were really bad all over the place. Bunkers were not good at all. Luckily the greens were kept ok so at least they have that. Maybe a bit of upkeep would help here. Might try it again next year if I hear some better things.
ROCKY POINT
This course is always crowded so expect to wait on every shot. Played as a 2 some and it was pretty good really but still waiting 5-10 minutes on all shots and teeboxes. Course was in really good shape greens were very smooth and fast I give it 4-5 stars would be 5 but too slow pace of play even on Tuesday
Great value
Love this course and wish I played it more often. Had 9:20 tee time and pace of play was great. $50 for the round was well worth it and course has some challenging holes.
Lady with the short curly gray hair needs to be removed from customer service
She was very rude to several people in front of us and to us also. There is usually an older guy there who is super pleasant so having someone with a poor attitude like she was is disappointing. Replace her with the lady who does the food in the back -- she was delightful. Course itself was fun to play and the fellow golfers were polite as usual and the pace of play was great. We saw a couple larger birds and we too saw the little green birds which were cool.
Vacation gem
Played this with my son while staying in Clearwater for a long weekend. Very pleasant surprise but for the pace of play.
Bit too busy so too much hanging around
Chose this course as we were in the area for a few days. Course is surrounded by roads so traffic and airport noise is constant. Course condition was ok though some greens needed weeding. Biggest issue was the numbers playing the course. Our tee time seemed to also include a further 4 groups so took a few holes to spread us out and get into a rhythm. Reason for not recommending is that most of my pals would prefer somewhere a bit quieter and in better condition
Fast play
Got a round in as a twosome under 4 hours. Course is in good shape as long as you stay in the fairways. Bunkers are not quite sand and it is kind of a bombing range with multiple holes running parallel to each other.
