Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

ROCKY POINT
This course is always crowded so expect to wait on every shot. Played as a 2 some and it was pretty good really but still waiting 5-10 minutes on all shots and teeboxes. Course was in really good shape greens were very smooth and fast I give it 4-5 stars would be 5 but too slow pace of play even on Tuesday
Great value
Love this course and wish I played it more often. Had 9:20 tee time and pace of play was great. $50 for the round was well worth it and course has some challenging holes.
Lady with the short curly gray hair needs to be removed from customer service
She was very rude to several people in front of us and to us also. There is usually an older guy there who is super pleasant so having someone with a poor attitude like she was is disappointing. Replace her with the lady who does the food in the back -- she was delightful. Course itself was fun to play and the fellow golfers were polite as usual and the pace of play was great. We saw a couple larger birds and we too saw the little green birds which were cool.
Vacation gem
Played this with my son while staying in Clearwater for a long weekend. Very pleasant surprise but for the pace of play.
Bit too busy so too much hanging around
Chose this course as we were in the area for a few days. Course is surrounded by roads so traffic and airport noise is constant. Course condition was ok though some greens needed weeding. Biggest issue was the numbers playing the course. Our tee time seemed to also include a further 4 groups so took a few holes to spread us out and get into a rhythm. Reason for not recommending is that most of my pals would prefer somewhere a bit quieter and in better condition
Fast play
Got a round in as a twosome under 4 hours. Course is in good shape as long as you stay in the fairways. Bunkers are not quite sand and it is kind of a bombing range with multiple holes running parallel to each other.
Marshal
The “Marshal” was more worried about us being half on half off the cart path by the tee box then the entire group holding up the entire golf course! CLUELESS.
No drainage
Greens and tee boxes were nice but all of the fairways were a swamp. Standing water and mud to the point of losing your ball that’s in play, just didn’t feel like submerging my shoes in water to get my used golf balls back. Will be a decent course once the rain slows down some
I’ve made it my home course.
There’s obviously a lot of nice course’s in/near Tampa. I’m lucky enough to have this one close to my house so I play it pretty often on Monday’s. The condition of the course is very good though after a good rain it can get soft. The greens are in the best shape I’ve seen. You can tell they’re trying to get this course back on peoples list. Sadly, they don’t promote the clubhouse much and never see anyone eating there, so I normally just leave after my round. I think there’s a lot of missed potential there.
Best Shape The Course Has Ever Been
Rocky Point is in the best shape I have ever seen it. Played my first round there 10 years ago, and they have vastly improved it. My only complaint is that the rough could use some more grass in some spots. The greens, fairways, and tee boxes were all great. New Carts is a bonus as well. Will be playing here more often.
Great Course, too wet
Great course, but was soaking wet. Want to play again in the spring, when it’s not wet.
Rocky Point
Great price for the price, a lot of improvements since I played it last. Only problem is that it still retains a lot of water both in the course and off the fairways.
