Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Okay course but holes to close to each other so lots of players on your holes.
Nice
It was great! I got a hot deal discount so it was 15 bucks plus green fee which was like 4 bucks. The best deal ever for 18 holes. I live super close so I'm bias but it's a great coarse with lots of history.
Pace of play
No ranger to contril start time or pace of play. Greens were super super fast! Made for a long day!
Nothing wrong with this course
Rocky Point rates out at a 3.4 on Golf Now which may be fair, but there is nothing wrong with this course. I disagree with those who say it's not a good value. Yes, it is a little rough around the edges and can play slow due to all the muni golfers, but it is plush tee-to-green, presents a lot of nice challenges for any golfer, and the greens are very nice. Yes there are a lot of ball marks on the greens because of all the hackers, but just fix them and stop whining and you'll be fine. They are very smooth and roll honest. More comments follow if you're interested.
I picked Rocky Point because I was staying at the airport and wanted a decent place to play 18. Rocky Point did not disappoint. Played as a single paired up with two locals. They like the course a lot, so what does that tell you. Playing late December on green grass, how bad can it be. It was a little soggy, some pretty tight lies with the short trimmed winter grass, but very nice track. The back nine does hug the passing highway, so you do have to be careful to not hit into traffic. Is it pristine, manicured, country club golf? No, but it also lacks the snootiness and pompous attitudes of clubs, is very walkable, forgiving but at the same time challenging enough to test your game. I highly recommend!
Rocky Point
Course was not in good condition at all. Tee boxes were awfully beaten up and covered in divots. Fairways were patchy with a lot of small divots throughout. Greens were alright all around. Staff should have been a little bit more attentive to the schedule and pace of play for all players on the course.
Weird course
Weird course layout, bad conditions for greens and fairways. Tee boxes were like teeing off sand.
Terrible customer service
No assistance with tee time change from staff. Customer service 0/5 stars.
Scott the Weekend Warrior
This is a relatively flat course which is perfect for me since I have difficulty walking up and down the greens. The bunkers aren’t as steep as other more challenging courses. The greens were challenging , but fun.
Classic
This is an excellent public course, I enjoyed my round and will return when in town.
Fast Greens
Tap the ball and it would roll and roll some more. The course was soggy from all the rain but all and all not bad. The greens were in real good shape. The fairways were just okay. No water for drinking yet. no ball washers which were really needed. The guys in front of us were slow..I ate a Hot Dog at the snack bar and it was SUPER. We had fun even if i had a few struggles.
Could use some work
Front counter gentleman was super nice . The golf cart is real Nice compared to other courses that I’ve been on. Signs should be updated telling you which way to go to the next hole. A few times along the course you will get confused on which hole you were going to next. You will also get confused on where the hole is a better score card/map showing where the holes are should be done. Hole map should be next to the Teebox not 50 yards away. Several of the holes are along the highway it can be really scary if you slice a ball you will hit oncoming traffic. Highly recommended that nets get put up on those portions. Did not get food at the clubhouse so I’m unable to speak about that. The pro shop seem pretty good not sure about prices on items didn’t observe price tags?
