Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Course/Tee Boxes
The has a great layout. The tee boxes need more grooming. A bit dry and long weeds.
Had a great solo round
I played a solo round at noon. The course was very peaceful and quiet. Came across some deer 3 different occasions and a few turkeys too. Only a couple of tee boxes were in less than perfect shape - but by no means terrible or unplayable. Almost all the greens were in good shape. Bunker sand was very hard and compacted from recent rains. Overall, one of my favorite rounds of 2021 in Tampa/St. Pete/Bradenton. Staff was very friendly also!
Rocky Point
Typical day although it was pretty slow for wed. No ranger on the course, no cart girl, no water, 1 restroom unless @ the clubhouse on the turn. Pretty good grass to hit off of on the fairways. Greens were very nice and true for how much play they get. Overall a good value for the money!
no title
disappointed in the course... the driving range and pitching range was very poor... the amount for a large bucket of balls was sub-par.... the amount of balls given didn't even fill the basket.. the course needs to redo how balls are distributed in the bucket.... The pitching range, very disappointing. the grass around the green was a just awful and small. to pitch onto the surface don't waste your time. and the grounds crew hasn't made any attempt to make it worth while. the course was wet from the rain and the groundscrew while keeping the grass cut had deep tracks--not good. NO YARDAGE BOOKS, In order to see the coure layout you need togo through the wedsite to see the holes. Pin placement was not indicated. not good for golfers who likes seeing where they are hitting. golfers be wary... they say it's a good course but I don"t believe so
slowest play ever!
this was my first time playing this course… i would like to say i will be back… but no… our first three holes took 1 hour… the pace of play was out of control… there were no marshals to help speed up play, i did not see the entire day a cart girl.. so not only was i upset from slow play… i was thirsty and hungry. the course was in rough shape, lots of mud and it just looked patchy. now the greens were in good shape. about a 11 if i was to call it… the course layout was nice..: so over all it could have been better… but not today for me… good luck to all those that play and get behind anyone
Great Round
From Michigan and paired with a great couple of guys from Maryland. First time playing this course. Fairways were soft from recent rain, but there was no waiting and we had an amazing time. Would definitely play again
Great course in bad shape
Course was extremely wed in many areas. Greens were in great shape. Course was to soft for play.
Best of TSA Courses
Finally played Rocky Point after years of driving by it, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the course and it’s upkeep. Compared to Babe and Rogers Park, this is the gem of the Tampa municipal courses. Greens were in really nice shape for the amount of rain we’ve gotten over the last week. Fairways had some weeds throughout but were recently cut. Like every other course in the area, the rough can make a ball disappear even if you follow it to the ground. Course has a challenging mix of holes from the blue tees at 6200ish.
The only odd part was there is no starter, and we were instructed to just go if the other twosome wasn’t on the tee box. Course looked very crowded behind us by 10am. We started at 7:50 and played in just under 4 hours, which wasn’t fast, but wasn’t slow either. For a shorter course with high volume, they would benefit from having a starter space out groups better.
Will definitely go back to play again.
Great lil course
There are a few (6) shorter par 4’s on this course that make it a fun course to play
great place.
I really do love rocky point. Really its 4.5 stars the only reason I took a half star off is maybe the bunkers could use some work and there were a couple spots that could use some tLC, but overall it's great. Great layout, finished in 3.5hours. conditions
were overall great. Holes are challenging but fair. last 4 are a whopper. Make sure you get all your scoring done early. Come out here and play.
