Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Crowded
I have only been playing regularly again for the past few years, but this was first course where I had to wait to take just about every shot
Had fun...No significant complaints
After seeing some negative reviews I didn't expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised. We got off on time and finished in a reasonable 4 hours. The course condition was fine for a heavily-played public course, and it offered a lot of fun challenges staying out of the water. Most of the fairways are wide enough for golfers who spray the ball a bit off the tee. Greens were in OK shape (although people were not good at repairing ball marks on the greens). The only minor negative was that the carts are not in good shape. Seats are torn (all in the same spot?), not well equipped, and apparently their mechanic doesn't know how to adjust the brakes.
Played here 3 years ago and liked the course
This year was even better. For a muni good price, great greens and tees. The fairways were in great condition
I will be back
Okay course but holes to close to each other so lots of players on your holes.
Nice
It was great! I got a hot deal discount so it was 15 bucks plus green fee which was like 4 bucks. The best deal ever for 18 holes. I live super close so I'm bias but it's a great coarse with lots of history.
Pace of play
No ranger to contril start time or pace of play. Greens were super super fast! Made for a long day!
Nothing wrong with this course
Rocky Point rates out at a 3.4 on Golf Now which may be fair, but there is nothing wrong with this course. I disagree with those who say it's not a good value. Yes, it is a little rough around the edges and can play slow due to all the muni golfers, but it is plush tee-to-green, presents a lot of nice challenges for any golfer, and the greens are very nice. Yes there are a lot of ball marks on the greens because of all the hackers, but just fix them and stop whining and you'll be fine. They are very smooth and roll honest. More comments follow if you're interested.
I picked Rocky Point because I was staying at the airport and wanted a decent place to play 18. Rocky Point did not disappoint. Played as a single paired up with two locals. They like the course a lot, so what does that tell you. Playing late December on green grass, how bad can it be. It was a little soggy, some pretty tight lies with the short trimmed winter grass, but very nice track. The back nine does hug the passing highway, so you do have to be careful to not hit into traffic. Is it pristine, manicured, country club golf? No, but it also lacks the snootiness and pompous attitudes of clubs, is very walkable, forgiving but at the same time challenging enough to test your game. I highly recommend!
