Rocky Point Golf Course

Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Fine Municipal Course
Location-wise you can't beat Rocky Point. It's 5 minutes from Tampa International and easily accessible. For being a municipal Rocky Point is in great shape.
Be aware, since it is a public municipal course, it is heavily played. This means crowded on weekends, below average skill level hackers, both of which contribute to a painfully slow round. I would not play here during peak times unless you have a foursome. Also, the fact its heavily played can negatively impact condition of fairways, but not the point where it's unplayable. In fact, for how much the course is played the fairways are in great condition.
The biggest positive about this course are the greens! Greens roll true and better than any other public course in the area. They're receptive and in pretty good condition.
Louisiana in Tampa
traveled to see family and went to rocky point which was around the corner from their house, was awesome for being a horrible golfer. I havent played in years but had a good time. Lost a few balls in the water but i would def recommend the course and play again.
Good vacation golf
Nice course not to far from Tampa airport. The greens were in very nice condition, the fairways & rough need a little bit of work. A few crabgrass spots in the fairways. Overall though not a bad course that will challenge all types of play.
Green
Greens amazing. Fairways nice. Some bare spots but barely. Tee boxes are nicest around. Give this course a shot if you’re around the area. Course came around well.
Incredible condition
The course is incredible condition! I could not believe how well the entire course is being maintained right now. And the price is about as good it gets around here. Super happy playing there.
Priced wrong
The price seems to keep going up over the years while the quality of the course has made no progress. 4somes are placed right on top of each other making pace of play very slow most days. Layout of course is more interesting on back 9, but still doesn’t compare to many public/semi-private courses in Tampa. Overall, the pace of play combined with quality of fairways/greens makes this course overpriced. I’d say $20-30 is reasonable. Anything above that doesn’t match the quality. Needs work around greens and fairways + better spacing on the groups to make it worth the price.
Nice public course
The rain has done a number, but the layout is fun, the greens are good and for the money it's a great course to stop and play a quick round. Except the rain has made it walking only.
Decent track
Greens good, fairways pretty good, following a nighttime storm so it was soggy but very playable. Liked the challenge.
It’s whatever I guess
Honestly nothing special about this course. Over priced for what it is. Layout is nothing that’ll standout to you, shape of course was ok but definitely need some work before they start charging people as much as the do. Truthfully went here for their restaurant which when I got their was a gigantic debacle. Cuban sandwiches at this place are awesome but turns out they’ve lost power so many times everything they had spoiled in their kitchen. So pretty much the entire reason a went their was wasted. Had I have known I would’ve gone somewhere else, this was my third time golfing here and it’s only gotten worse every time.
Good conditions but easy to lose ball.
The greens were in good shape. Too easy to lose ball in the retention outlet river that runs through essentially the entire course. Decent value. I prefer Rogers park to RP however.
This course is a good public city course
The course is in good condition, greens run relatively fast.. One could tell mgt has put some time and money into the course. Is in good condition for city run course. Fairly high for a public course , but with a coupon from Tee , 1/2 price was a fair price. Would go again with a coupon.
Solid course
Course was in amazing shape. Greens were tough but that’s what made it fun. Definitely practice before. And the practice green was spot on to the course greens. Stay out of the rough, it is thick in places. Good news the course is pretty wide open so you can play your shank. Some challenging par 3s with distance and hazards. Highly recommend this course.
Best bang for buck in all of tampa
Great price and decent course. Easy course great for most levels
Not the best
The course was decent greens were not to bad. The guy who rang me up in the pro shop gave me the wrong rate as I was with a member whose rate is always 20-25$ dollars rang me up for 38$ no way would I ever pay that to play there again maybe 20$ if that. Maybe the pro shop guy could have been a little more respectful and honored the rate and not made me feel stupid I would play here again.
