Meat and Potatoes Followed by Desert
The front nine is a great mix of holes that wind through some woods and offer a variety of golf shot challenges. The par 3's are pretty long from the Black tees which are one step in from the tips. The greens offer a broad mix of styles, stepped, sloped, narrow, wide, angled away from the approach shot... There are lots fairway bunkers and greenside bunkers on 7 of 9. This array of bunkers requires you to think your way around the nine and not just bomb every shot toward the green. By the way, the two holes without bunkers, a par 3 set on a little plateau that kicks errant shots away from the green and a par 4 with a variety of humps to make chipping a challenge. This is the meat and potatoes side of the course.
The back nine... time for desert! A creek in play on number 10 down the right all the way to the green. There are bunkers all around the short landing area to snag errant short drives. The fairway just in front of the green is the target for bombers and a good drive sets up a birdie opportunity. The green has an interesting hump on the left and if the pin is tucked behind it, the putting or chipping from the front of the green can be challenging. Number 11 tees off over water from the Blacks and the Tips. The green is situated so any short shot or shot right will find water. The green has two levels and landing on the correct level makes the large green actually feel like two small greens and you really want to be on the correct one... the one with the with the pin. Number 12. Put that driver back in the bag. Trees down the right and a hill that slopes toward the woods makes this hole no good even slightly right of the fairway. Bail out to the left and you get behind a well placed tree that forces a big shaped draw for just a chip to the front of the green. A false front feature of the green catches a lot of approach shots so keep it in mind for that wedge attempt. 13 can be an unlucky number if you wander right. Another hole with trees down the right. That is starting to be a back nine trend... but this is the last long drive you will need. The hole plays uphill and has lots of interesting places for the pin that can make the putting straight forward or challenging. 14 is a short par 5 that long hitters will challenge in two and most will have a short approach. A long skinny green with bunkers on both sides and a stepped portion on the back means you can play this hole 10 times and it has a different personality each time.. 15 is a straight forward par 4 with a deep bunker on the right side. The green has some serious slope and down hill putts need close attention to avoid big come-backers. 16 can be a birdie hole with a drive down the middle but the back pins bring the sand trap into play that guards the right side of the green. 17 is a beautiful par 3 with bunkers for looks and one for trouble. The short right bunker is pretty deep and requires a good sand shot so the tee shot should take it into consideration. Hitting the green is only the beginning as this green has a slope to be dealt with. Side hill putts and down hill putts need to be executed perfectly to avoid a 3-putt and finding an uphill putt on this last par 3 is a good idea if you cant get it. This is probably the most 3-putted green on the course. The final hole is the last bite of dessert. Big hitters love this hole because a drive over the water means a very reachable par 5. From the black tees, drives need to stay airborne over 200 yards. Aiming to the left edge of the lake can shorten the required carry but not by much. The long route around the lake is not really easy because the water is still in play for that route also. If par is your goal, a short iron anywhere to the right of the lake sets up a 3 wood or long iron that can get you inside the 150 marker. The green is one of the best saved for last.. The front portion is narrow and sloped quite a bit and is guarded by bunkers on both sides. The back of the green can add 35yds to the approach shot but the bunkers should be out of play. Bomb it over the water, knock it on in two and end your day putting for eagle!
Superb IPA (Alewerks) on tap will quench your thirst as you relax on the veranda and count your birdies up.
Meat and potatoes on the front and desert on the back. What more do you need from a round of golf?
My mistake!
Should have stayed home! Course wasn't too wet but, cart path only and extremely windy and cold. I knew in advance that the greens were aerated but, they were playable. Sand traps were more like water hazards due to recent heavy rains... need a lot of help. Other than that, I will be back!
Thank you for visiting us at Kiskiack Golf Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Good Day
Course is still in winter mode but still fun. Greens aerated but we knew that going in so no issues. They still ran well and I'm sure will be back in shape in a few days. Traps were in bad shape but we did see lots of work being done, nice. Great attention from staff. This course will be 5 stars when the heat comes back.

Windy, and Chilly Round!
Played here numerous of times now. We unfortunately hit the weekend where they just aerated their greens (GolfNow gave us the heads up so it wasn’t a surprise).
Course was in great shape for end of March.
However, they did receive about 5 inches of rain two days prior and the bunkers had small lakes in them still. We lost a couple balls in the bunkers due to the amount of water being held in them. Bunkers were also hard due to rain water sitting in them for a while and not being dried out yet. If we ended up in a bunker, and could find the ball in the sitting water we’d move it near the “shore line” in the bunker to a spot of sand that was semi reasonable to hit from.
Other than that the rest of the course was solid and hard as always. It’s a fun course but if you hit a poor drive on some of these holes you’re gonna be in trouble!
The Starter came around once or twice to make sure pace of play was going, and everyone was following the rules so that’s always appreciated (cart path only that day).
No beer cart to be had, but the club house has some good sandwich/lunch options that are already usually cooked so you just go in, pick what you want, pay, and get back out quickly.
Will return again!

Coming in for the season
They had just done some heavy punching and sanding of the greens, but it was communicated on their course status so it was expected.
Wetter conditions and course is still coming in for the season but will be good in a month

An excellent track
I've played Kiskiack many times over the course of my military career. The layout is fun, challenging, and fair. For so early in the season the greens were rolling perfectly. I truly enjoy courses that open and close with par 5s. It allows you to start the day and finish the day with a good chance at birdie. Highly recommend this course to anyone visiting the Williamsburg area. If you leave disappointed it will likely not be the course that did it to you.
Wow! We are so happy you enjoyed your round! We look forward to seeing you again soon at Kiskiack Golf Club.

Early season review
The staff was great and so was the course. It wouldn't be fair to give them any dings for course condition this early in the season. The grass isn't even green yet.
One thing I will say is that there was one hole that had a confusing tee area. I think it was the sixth hole. It was bad enough that actually teed off the wrong hole...
Overall I was real happy for my first time there. I'll be back.
Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Kiskiack Golf Club.
Good value for the money
This was a very nice course for the money I paid via Golfnow. Everything was good especially considering the weather and the time of the year. However, one small complaint is that the fairway was yellow. No green grass. It was hard to find the ball even when we hit the ball in the middle of the fairway. I will definitely visit this course again when the weather is better, so I can enjoy the scenery more and find the ball on the green fairway.

Kiskicak
Greens and tees were great. Fairways are still dormant so played as expected. It would be nice if they overseeded, but that does not happen anywhere in Williamsburg that I know of.
