About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Not the same Ocotillo
Was very disappointed. $114 then $10 to hit range balls that used to be Calloways but not anymore. It’s obvious they are focused on profits vs taking care of the course. This course used to be pristine. Range was muddy. Greens were spotty and some just trash. Sand traps were muddy and full of rocks. The tee boxes were uneven. I used to play there a lot and this place is now one I won’t be playing again. It was a $50 course at best. The only good aspect is they have good people working there, but as far as golf goes it has gone from one of my favorites to one of the worst courses especially for the ridiculous price. Sayonara Ocotillo- the new owners have ruined a great place.

Horrible conditions greens and bunkers
Greens on sky and valley had multiple holes with dead greens. Sky #2 huge dead area in the front of the green dead. Bunkers were so bad except the lady few holes on valley..sky bunkers were rock beds not bunkers.$127 at $100 plus to boot include range balls is wild. Arizona golf courses are overpriced and run poor conditions . I'll be avoiding playing here for a while.

Greens rock hard
Fairways and tee boxes were good, but greens were rock hard and some were sanded.
No starter so just joined another group.

A day with the geese
It had been a number of years since I had played Ocotillo and was very disappointed in the condition of the course. Lots of bird poop and next to no grass on the greens.

Way more challenging but way more entertaining
Ocotillo has become a very difficult course but that very entertaining at the same time, it has given me 3 beatings since everything got cut down and way faster, but every time I want to come back more

April greens
Enjoyed the pace of play, not many others on the course. Was able to stay a Twosome and enjoy the company of my friend.
However the greens were in terrible condition, very fast and looks like a fungus is on them. It appears they are treating it but the cut lines in the ground affect the ball.
Will always go back it is a very tough course and great place to challenge yourself.

Not worth it
First of all arrived on time! Went to drop bags off to get our cart! Sorry no carts. Well we tee off in 25 mins. Well come back 10
Mins before your start! We ran out of golf carts. The poor kids getting grilled by multiple
People saying how ridiculous this was! Agreed but went and putted and went back to get two carts 10 mins before we have to tee off! Still no carts. They had just loaded two carts in which they now offloaded their carts to put our clubs on! Barely made it to teetime w starter. He said they are trying to get 500 golfers on the course every day and that why there is no carts! We get on the course and wait on every tee box. 5.5 hrs to play 18. The greens were rough and there wasn’t a sand trap that was raked and even playable! Hard wet mud ground in traps! Greens were cut short and for 160 each, the course definitely showed the over play! Not worth it! Played here for 25 years and it has been going down hole since!

Too Slow

Always slow, always rude, never fun.
I used to love played Occotillo but it’s really gone down hill the last few years. First off, the staff is less than friendly. You never get a “Hey how are you?” Or a “Welcome to Ocotillo,” but are met with a “you playing today? Well I don’t have any carts available” from the bag drop and then a “tee time?” from the pro shop. This BIGGEST issue at Ocotillo is that they send WAY too many groups out in a day. Your round will take over 5.5 hours no matter what. You will have multiple instances of 3 groups waiting on a tee box, but will still be hawkeyed by the on course Rangers who try to tell you to keep pace. What pace? A sloth could play 18 holes quicker. The course itself is unique to Arizona as we don’t have many courses with that much water. Reminds me of every course in Florida. The greens are OK, the faurways are also OK, tee boxes are small and not always flat, and beyond that there is a lot of area constantly under repair.
They need to do better. Start spacing tee times out to 10 minutes, HAVE A STARTER ON THE 1st HOLE!
I think I can officially say I’m done playing here. It’s unfortunate because its so close to my house, but it’s never a good experience.
