About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

One exception
As far as staff friendliness, one employee at check-in was rude. First time here and she expected us to know where everything was and when asked a question, gave us a look of what are you stupid.

Slow sat
Course was in good shape and staff was fine. Only complaint was pace of play. Waited a lot , took 4:45 to play . I know its a busy time of year but when you are spending $175 per round with the range , it would be nice to see a marshal to keep pace moving along.

Disappointed
We have played this course many times over the years, all under different management groups.
Was disappointed at the cost of the round (understand its WMO week) extra charge to use the practice round. Also goose poop on 5/18 greens. some greens had fake animals at the greens(no poop) why couldn't they put animals on these 5 holes? Why not blow them off with leaf blower?

Great day for a challenge.
The course has a beautiful layout with a man made canal system throughout the entirety of the course and gorgeous homes lining the perimeter. You’re in for a challenge to control every shot as the hazards are abundant, and the pin placements on sloped/tiered greens can make the approach shot tricky. Nothing about the course was unfair, but it did possess some unique challenges. It was a fun round of golf.

Hope you don’t mind goose poop!
I always look forward to playing Ocotillo. I took some time off of this course since mid-summer when the fairways were atrocious!
This time I played Sky-Valley. Sky was still in bad shape; patchy fairways and lettered with goose turds. Both courses had bedrock for greens. Like trying to land in a parking lot.
Putting that aside, pace of play was very fast. My partner and I got done in 3 hours—and that’s with shooting +14.
Staff was awesome. Starter was cool af and very helpful.

Supremely overpriced
Course should be called Ocotillo Goose Club, way too overpriced for the conditions and amount of birds. Won't be back

Challenging Course
This course is very nice, in good shape and the water holes are very difficult for short hitters. Many times you will need to lay up twice, as there are few “back door” or side options to negotiate the hole. However, it is still a very nice course.

Dry course
The fairway and greens were a little dry in places. I thought the rough was green last time I golfed here( that’s why I came back ) , but it’s dry grass now.

Bird shir
Lots of water, with fairways sloping to the water and no long grass to hold golf balls before the water. Bird poop everywhere, worst i have ever seen. Address on golf now receipt was wrong. Fairways and greens in descent shape.
