About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Geese crap all over the place
There was geese crap everywhere, fairways and greens. Never saw a cart person until hole 11. We arrived in the bar area around 5:00 and they said that they were closed for food and drinks. We saw a group of eight leaving when we came in and they told us good luck getting a drink. Lots of people still playing, parking lot was 3/4 full, it just seems lots of revenue gets missed. We had planned on eating dinner and having drinks. I know for a fact the food is really good there. Was really disappointing.

A great course that with now faster greens became one of the best in the area
Already a good and challenging course that now with the way faster greens it became one of the best courses in the Phoenix area, and way more so with the great price to go with it compared to the rest out there, but please don't use this to increase the price, at least much :)

Better value elsewhere
Check in person was rude and condescending. Because we had a lower rate pass charged us for range balls even though range balls are laid out for everyone. Coarse is covered in waterfowl poop. To the point where you have to reposition your ball to either not be standing in poop or putting through poop. The bunkers are a mixture of dirt and rocks. For a higher priced coarse to play definitely not worth it!

Challenging, Fun and in Good Overall Shape
Was 2nd off the tee on a cold morning, but that made for a quick 3 hr and 15 round. General conditions were good though greens were fast and not in excellent condition (okay/good) but as such balls weren't holding well and running out a bit. Lots of bird/duck/geese poop on course as well. Staff was very friendly and it was a fun day. Not sure I could afford this every week, but it's always enjoyable when we are able to get out there.

Course gone down hill
Rough was dead and brow, fairways overwatered, bunkers are cheap, hard desert dirt in most cases, they seem to be transitioning in to real sand. Not enough grass on green, they roll fast which is okay, but the cup is placed on top of a hill/curve, so if you miss, you your ball rolls out further than where you started and back down the hill or curve. My index is a 14.2 and I shot 105 that day for these reasons. I didn't play my best, but I average score is an 88.3. I threw out the score card as I walked off the course and I drove 30 minutes to get there. Not going back anytime soon and I'm cancelling my Arics card, bc all courses managed my Arcis are average at best, with the exception of McDowell Mountain Golf Club.

Mud balls all day
Course is over watered and the fairways look like a first cut off rough. Greens were pretty decent though.
