SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
About
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club provides adventure amid natural terrain over 7,002 yards of par-71 golf. The golf course was laid out by the golf course architect Keith Foster, who hid the golf course in the ridges and canyons of the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, one of the last untouched bastions of the Southwestern United States.
The SunRidge Canyon Golf Club's signature hole is the 17th, and it is unique, giving golfers the option of shooting a 209-yard, par 3 over a box canyon today and then going for a 152-yard par 3 from an elevated tee tomorrow. Foster discovered the elevated-tee opportunity during a tour of the golf course while it was being constructed and added the Canyon set of tees right then. The vistas he knew golfers would get were enough to convince Foster to set up the second set of tees.
After a round of golf at the SunRidge Canyon Golf Club, head back to the Ridge Room, which attracts visitors and locals for the great view and Southwestern cuisine.

Beautiful hole! Photo submitted by danthomson on 09/25/2012
Great course but beware of greens
This is a high quality course as always but greens are running unusually fast and harder to predict the role.
A perfect high chip on wicked six will roll off to edge of green, yes even with a Pro V. Not sure sure if weather has created strange conditions in grass texture but greens are in good shape. Good luck and just remember it will test your patience and you will have to adjust.
Good conditions and challenging course
Course makes you think is not just a bombers course with length not always the premium but more accuracy. I like the elevation changes of the course and the slopes the washes bring into play. The greens were in good shape and rolled out well as the rest of the course was also in good shape.
Beautiful!
Honestly, the greens were/are sofast, it became almost frustrating. Admittedly, I'm not a single handicap player, but, this course is borderline unfair to anyone with recreational golfing ability.
The layout, the views, all the highly manicured fairways and greens are worthy of the highest compliments! I will play it again and as often as I can afford. However I won't expect my score to be normal because of the speed is so dramatically different from any course I've ever played. Again, I emphasize my ability isn't capable of adapting to the speed these greens are intentionally cut to.
The pro shop forewarns patrons of this speed.
The Wicked 6 holes were a wonderful challenge and my game was/is/did produce a couple of pars. I look forward to those hole next time.........
Yes, play and enjoy SunRidge for it is a very very beautiful facility and the Wicked Six Restaurant offers an ambiance unlike most courses........... They should advertise this more then a casual mention!
Nice!
Very nice challenging course with crazy fast greens...expect many 3 putts!
Great value A+
Excellent course, A+++. We paid for a $59 round on a special, but would play this course again for $100 no questions asked. Great course, a must stop in Arizona.
Faaasstt greens
Course was in good condition. Pace was fantastic. Didn't see another golfer until the 17th tee. Took the front nine to get the putting dialed in. The greens were lightning fast!
Fun course
Course was in great shape, price for this area very reasonable. Best part we caught a day nobody was out. Had the course to ourselves.
Quite a challenge
Course was in excellent condition. Greens are so fast you can three putt all day long! Very tough course for first time players as well as those who play often.
Cart path only on quite a few of the back 9 holes so it increases playing time and difficulty with club selection. Would be nice to open these holes to carts.
Tough but fun
It was the first time I played the course and it was difficult but might be little easier next time.
it was a lot of walking to get to your ball on some on the cart path only holes so be ready for that because it is hilly on the Wicked Six holes.
Great views and course
With dramatic elevation changes and fantastic views on most holes, this is one course you definitely want to play.
The conditions were great all around, the staff was friendly and the beverage cart came around often. The in-cart GPS was also quite helpful for approach shots. The front 9 has the best views I've seen all week, looks like what you'd see in a golf magazine. The back 9 is generally more uphill, with the last 6 holes (dubbed the Wicked Six) being quite challenging.
The middle holes (9 to 11) are close to a college football field, and was a bit noisy, so if that bothers you, check in advance to see if there is a game; otherwise, the course was very peaceful.
One more thing: holes 16 and 18 face dead west and into the setting sun, so if you can, an earlier tee time might be better because of that.
Great course
The staff was great from the greeting to the end. Food was fantastic along with the pro shop. Course was in great shape and will test your skills. Gps on carts helpful for first timers to help understand each hole. Would recommend to anyone.
Very Good
Excellent course in great shape. Foods and service also very good. Have your A game as this is a very challenging tract.
Amazing
I specifically travel to the Phoenix area to play desert style target courses. Sunridge Canyon did not disappoint!
The course has an interesting layout of going out and down into the canyon and then coming back and up in. The scenery and views are spectacular!
As far as playability, the course is challenging. Generally speaking, there aren't many flat lies. If you spray your shots into the desert, your ball is pretty much gone. If I were to play this course again (and I hope I do) I would layup a few shots and shoot for boogie rather than try to use 3W and long irons to try and reach the green. The Wicked 6 is no joke. It's tough!
If you can get a deal on Sunridge Canyon, I'd highly recommend it. I paid $29 on a hot deal and felt like I was robbing them. However, it's easily worth whatever you'd pay for some of the other top courses in the Phoenix metro.
It doesn't show up on all the lists when Google searching "top phoenix golf courses". But, it should. It's an amazing experience!
Because I got a hot deal, I teed off around 1:55. I would recommend starting earlier as the course being in a canyon the sun sets earlier on the course than if you were standing in a flat area of the desert. In other words, it gets dark just a little quicker than maybe a course not inside a canyon. You're going to want to see everything you can on this course.
No brainer
Excellent course...fairways are perfect. Greens are firm but roll very true. Layout is excellent...just a excellent course and great rate here. Must play in my opinion.
The course was in great shape.
Very fun round. The wicked six played tougher because of wind and due to morning rain.Very enjoyable though.
very nice golf course
Pace of play was somewhat slow, but we had a foursome who played second round on the same day and were very slow walking (too much golf, perhaps?)
Other way I had a great time!
Great views great course
One of prettiest courses I have played. Select the right tees and have fun. Great for couples .
Wicked Six Indeed
This is a target course for hearty players. Overseeding made conditions inconsistent on greens, but they were in as good a shape as conditions allow.
A Very Nice Course in Scottsdale
This is a desert course that is for the golfer with excellent control and accuracy. If you are the 90% that has some weaknesses in your game, maybe play it without keeping score but enjoy it given the beauty and condition of the course. I ate lunch at the restaurant before playing and found the food and service good, but a bit pricey. Come on, $8.00 for 2 20 Oz power aids? This in itself will have me looking elsewhere on my next visit to the area. But the coarse and staff did a good job making my wife and I feel very welcome.
Really pretty desert style golf course
Everything was great. The only items of note being (I) it was cart path only; and (ii) it took nearly 4.5 hours to get round 18 because of some four balls in front of us.
Course was beautifully green and very nicely landscaped. Nice variety of holes. The back nine was more difficult but more scenic including the look back down the 18th.
Nice to have the Garmin screen on the cart with advice and distances.
