Desert Canyon Golf Club
About
Nestled within Fountain Hills, the course at the Desert Canyon Golf Club offers a championship course with a variety of elevation changes with views canyon and mountain views. It is a desert-style course with some elevated tees and open fairways that play tight with a few doglegs. Water bunkers come into play on a few holes as well as numerous well-positioned sand bunkers. From nearly every hole on the golf course, views of the signature fountain in Fountain Hills, which is the world's tallest fountain at 550 feet, can be seen.

Excellent greens, some rough spots
The greens were lush and level, a little slow. We played early in the am and they seemed to get faster on the back nine. There were some thin and bare spots in the fairway, understandable in the prolonged drought. We were always able to find grass nearby and moved the ball when appropriate. Play was fast, never waited on anyone and no one waited on us. Beautiful scenery.
Avoid until Fall
Besides the course being in very poor shape which is somewhat understandable in summer conditions, my group was disappointed that there was no beverage cart and the outside staff lacked customer service skills. Most fairways are really, really thin and I’d wait until the fall re-seeding before I pay the high rates they charge.to play here.
Desert Canyon is a dream
I really enjoyed this track. Views on just about every hole and the in the middle of the summer it is maintained beautifully. I highly recommend this hidden gem in Fountain hills.
Jacked up price
Course in tough condition, year for a mid day tee time if you book without knowing will charge you about $50 bucks and more! On golf now and other apps I found this course under $20 and at times $13 for 18 holes and range balls. They won’t tell you how bad the course is until you experience it for yourself. Unfortunately have a buddy who didn’t know how bad the conditions are of the course and booked us a tee time tomorrow and got screwed for $50 a person. Should be extra round tossed in or s
Good features, but..
This course was beautiful, staff was somewhat friendly, but I was extremely dissatisfied that there were NO water stations in any of the courses? It is summer prime heat in Arizona, and every other course I’ve been to has had water stations at every few holes and this course had zero. My boyfriend and I were very dehydrated towards the end and had already drank through the big thing of water we brought; but due to how hot Arizona is I am shocked there were zero water stations through the course. If we were to play here again we’d just make sure to bring a gallon or more of water jugs, but I personally like the other courses we’ve played because they all had water stations.
WARNING! DO NOT PLAY UNTIL Mid-July!!
I would STRONGLY encourage people not to play here until at least the 2nd or 3rd week of July. Easily the absolute worst mid-June course conditions I've seen on a AZ golf course in my 25+ years of playing here. Every aspect of the course was a wreck from the combined impact of a very severe aeration, green scalping, sanding and the annual winter rye die-off and pre-summer Bermuda grass growth. Probably 60-70% of the fairways had no/minimal grass and the greens were like putting on a beach. I've never seen such a heavy-handed aeration and scalping of greens here.
In my opinion, June is always the worst golf month here because all of the winter grass has died by now, but the summer Bermuda hasn't come back yet so many courses have terrible conditions, but this course sunk to a new low.
I like the layout and the course is usually in good shape for the price, but I felt like they robbed us blind with even charging $45/player. Give it at least another 2-4 weeks.
Fun & Fast
Got there a little early and golf shop let me right out!
Love that when they let you go in the summer, a very nice twosome of ladies let me through on 1 and I was on my way.
Going through transition with the summer heat rolling in but the greens were excellent and overall course is in good shape.
Thank you
Ok
The course was being aerated and this information was not given before we paid for it. Also my friend who I played with is a current cancer patient and we were up charged for a separate cart. The cart should’ve been provided at no charge because of Covid like most other courses. As a matter of fact if we would have booked separately through golf now we probably would have got separate carts. Everybody that we interacted with from the golf club were exceptionally kind and helpful. (Except for the cart issue)
Uphill, Downhill
It’s either elevated tees or elevated greens. You constantly need to correct your yardage for the elevation. A fun course. They were aerating at the time of this round, but conditions are usually quite good.
Very. Tough. Greens.
Pace of play: Bad. Didn’t free up until the back nine. Sandwich golf with people in our hip pocket from behind and waiting for the people in front. Finished in 4 and a half, but could have been a lot better
Fairways: Good shape. Not lush tropic green in the pictures but good
Sand Traps. Like every other course in Arizona, they were horrible. More like Caliche traps.
Par fours were in the 315 to 375 range. Not a long course.
The Greens: very very tough. Very fast and sloping. If you have a down hill putt and miss, you will roll fifteen feet past and that is with the lightest possible touch. Very challenging for ones short game.
I’d play it again.
Great course. Fast greens
Amazing day. Great course layout. But the greens were so hard and fast that nothing stayed on.
We Owned The Course
First, kudos for the Club’s management for practicing and enforcing COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
For the price we were treated with a very well maintained golf course. Golf range is well maintained and peaching and putting greens were representative of the course. We played as a two-some, no players before and after us - we owned the course!
There were a few bald spots in the fairway and around the green parameters but could easily be forgiven for the price.
Watch out for those deceiving steep sloped greens - the 18th hole in particular. These could ruin your good streak!
Nice course, friendly and helpfull staff
Played this course on one of the hottest days. Teed off at 7:24 and finished at 11:10. Pace of play was great but because we were a twosome with foursomes ahead of us it seem slow and the temp did not help. Course was in good shape for this time of year. The tee boxes were air-rated (not a problem), some fairways and roughs had been air-rated. Plugs had been picked up so not an issue. Fairways had some bare spots as rye was dying and Bermuda had not filled in yet. Greens were in good shape but were slow compared to what I am used to. Would play here again.
average course
first time playing here and was a fun course. nice layout, typical az conditions when very hot. if you are a single digit player the back tees are a necessary choice, not very long. would probably play again if in the area
Second time on this course, twice the fun.
Not that my first round was bad, but I was having an off day, so the fun was minimal. Of course now it started to get hot, so there are fewer people to contend with, and the course is becoming affordable. There was no cart going, which was odd, but I tanked up after nine.
I played well and found that this is a really fun course with interesting challenges. I say, “Go forth and birdie.”

I'm sorry that you ran out of water while playing at Desert Canyon GC. We have two ice and water stations located at the club house and offer drinking water near our tee boxes about every second to third hole. Number 9 brings you back to the club house before you reach the back 9. The next time you visit we'd be happy to help you locate them.
