Kokopelli Golf Course
About
Located a short distance from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix and Arizona State University, Kokopelli Golf Course is a championship length course that offers many interesting challenges. The rolling terrain creates sloping greens and undulating fairways. A majority of the teeboxes and greens are elevated as well. The course also has large multiple island tees and water hazards in the form of meandering lakes that come into play on several holes. The signature hole of Kokopelli Golf Course is the par-5 18th hole. The dramatic finishing hole calls for a shot off an elevated too followed by an approach shot past water to an elevated green.

Conditions
Overall course in poor condition. Bunkers we absolutely terrible. Grass and shrubs growing out of them and they were unplayable. Have played here lots prior and never seen it this bad.
Kokopelli
This course doesn’t warrant the $55.00 fee. Sand traps were not maintained at all, weeds as tall as my knees & hard as cement. The holes visible to drive-by traffic were maintained, but the others left to the wayside. No drinkable ice available on drink cart. I would not have minded if the price reflected the conditions.
Disappointed
Pace of play was great. Finished in 4 hours. Course condition was very rough. Fairways were drying out and disappearing into the abyss of hard dirt and mud that surrounded them. Greens were in decent condition at least which was the only saving grace. I expected better for the price as did my playing partners.
Good value
Good value good layout friendly staff needs some maintence
Disappointed
Course is in pretty bad shape. Many bare spots in fairways, greens were rock hard, cart paths had bad spots in them. Worst bunkers I have ever seen, grass growing in many of them, but no sand. Carts were old. No GPS. Range marking was limited to 150 yard markers on most fairways. Price was about average, but too much for what was there.
No sand
The worst bunkers in the valley. No sand, hard packed dirt with weeds growing. This really spoils an otherwise decent experience.
Ok in a pinch
2:22 tee time and went off 10 minutes early. Finished 16 holes before dark. Started backing up on 11. Waited every hole after. Lots of big deep traps with literally NO SAND in them. I played out of one fairway bunker - lift clean and place out of a green side bunker that had concrete hard bottom and mud sides. I did like the rolling fairways. Greens seemed inconsistent on the front. Been there, done that. We won’t be going back.
Needs a lot of TLC
I've played this course infrequently for several years and booked it for a round with tee off at 12:30. We arrived early and spent some time at the driving range which was fine except you're hitting off mats. At 12:15 one of the outside attendants told me we were "on deck" and would be teeing off after the current group. So we went inside the clubhouse to go to the bathroom. I was inside maybe two minutes and came out. The starter yelled at me that I was holding up groups and we should be on the tee box already. Mind you this was 10 minutes before our scheduled tee time. So I rushed over there to tee off while my wife drove the cart over. We teed off, went to our ball and hit another shot. Then waited for the group ahead of us to clear the green. This was the first of the waiting periods we were in. I don't know what the starters problem was because the pace of play was atrocious. Our foursome waited on every hole and every shot for the group ahead of us to clear. And it wasn't them, it was some group ahead of them. We finally got to the 10th tee after 2 1/2 hours and waited with two other groups to tee off. The beverage cart came by and we asked the attendant to notify the clubhouse to send someone out to manage the pace of play. She assured us she would. At 5:10 almost 5 hours after our tee off we finally finsished without ever seeing a ranger. One group behind us quit on the 16th hole in frustration.
And it wasn't only the pace of play. Most sand traps have absolutely no sand. They're ground under repair. The few that did have sand, had no rakes and were worthless. A lot of the fairways were partially dirt or in the low spots were mud. My wife and I commented that even if the course was free we wouldn't be returning as it was absolutely one of the worst conditioned courses we've played in years. That along with the pace of play turned us off from ever returning. They need to put some money or time into this course. They layout is great except for the neighboring junkyard on the back nine. This is an ARCIS course and they maybe need to visit to see if this course meets their standards. It doesn't meet ours.
