Course Highlights
The course layout consistently earns praise for its rolling hills, moguls, and long fairways that create a genuinely challenging round. Friendly staff and reasonable rates make this a smart alternative to pricier options in the Phoenix area.

Located a short distance from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix and Arizona State University, Kokopelli Golf Course is a championship length course that offers many interesting challenges. The rolling terrain creates sloping greens and undulating fairways. A majority of the teeboxes and greens are elevated as well. The course also has large multiple island tees and water hazards in the form of meandering lakes that come into play on several holes. The signature hole of Kokopelli Golf Course is the par-5 18th hole. The dramatic finishing hole calls for a shot off an elevated too followed by an approach shot past water to an elevated green.

Course is always burnt and overpriced

Greens also have a million ball marks on them. They just don’t take care of the course. I’m done playing here.

Why?

They have let this course deteriorate before our eyes. The staff is awesome and super friendly but the course itself is just beat. I pt one 5 yards off the fairway on 16 and it went into a puddle so big there were ducks living in it. Garbage course and oh yea it was a 5 hour round. You would have to pay me to play there again.

Bare areas and horrific sand traps!

I have not played here in many years, but this is not what I remembered. There were huge areas that are completely bare and a mojority of the sand traps were even worse. I will not play there again until these issues are addressed, nor will I recommend it to others.

Nice layout, back nine under repair

This course seems to be under repair. The bunkers currently need sand and the back nine was being punched and graded. Very muddy on the back nine. Greens were in great shape, however, and the front nine was in much better shape than the back. Nice layout.

COUNTRY CLUB ATMOSPHERE!!

Awesome course design. I read all the negative reviews, and put off by other golfer experiences, over the sand traps not being maintained. However, I decided to play the course anyway, and glad I did. The entire staff was awesome, including the guys cleaning the carts at the end of our round

Whenever the course owners can afford to spruce up the sand traps, it will definitely be in the top 5 courses in all of Arizona. White Sugar looking sand please, like what you see at Pebble Beach. (Special Request)

I just relocated to Arizona 5 months ago, from Northern California. I have played 15 different courses here, all nice courses, but Kokopelli has my highest vote, I.E. best greens and fairways. The layout was challenging. It wasn't a big deal to drop out of the traps that didn't have sand in them. Great pace of play. No course is perfect, but Kokopelli has enormous potential to be a $200-$300 per round course, and I wouldn't hesitate paying.

I have never played a course that each sand trap requires up to 4 eight foot rakes, due to size, but that's what I imagine, once they fill all 400 traps with sand. It could be 600 sand traps. I only know, there are way to many to count. Wow 1,600 rakes. Other than the GUR sand traps, the maintenance of the course was spot on.

Bad, just plain bad...

At some point maybe like 5 years ago the greenskeeper must have gone on strike, quit, or was fired. The course itself is relatively short and laid out well but the conditions are terrible, this place needs to hire a greens professional, close for a year, plant some grass, fix bunkers and trim out the trees and brush. For $90.00 this is a ripoff there are many, many better options in Phoenix for this price that far exceed the quality. At first sight there is green grass that is watered possibly overwatered because there is standing water everywhere which doesn't help their situation because of carts driving through the puddles. The rest of it would insult a haymeadow to call it that, it is barren hard packed dirt. Again, BAD, just plain BAD.

Greens good

Other than greens, once your off the fairway it's just dirt, dirt & more dirt. For the price it was disappointing.

Buyer be ware

This course has gone down hill over the last few years. It is not in great condition right now. We played and it looked like a Monsoon had just rolled through. Insane conditions for April.

Not worth it

I am surprised that they are even allowing customers to play this course in the condition it is in. Zero sand in the trap, and not one trap even raked for months. The course is mostly mud..not even joking. It was horrible. I would be completely embarrassed to be the owner of this course. My twosome played with another twosome and none of us will ever be back. I want a complete refund

Downhill

Downhill since I last played here about 4 years ago.

Traps were terrible, fairways and greens likewise. It was

not easy to play because of the conditions.

Needs attention

My impression is that the superintendent is either understaffed or incompetent. This is a desert course and I know you have to irrigate but all bunkers are either mud or hard baked clay, no sand at all. No attempt at conditioning. There is standing water along the cart path from the runoff, it hasn't rained for weeks. There's plenty of green grass though, and I guess that's the objective.

Can be a great course

The layout and terrain gives this course a great opportunity to be a great course. The condition of the course was poor. Some fairways condition were poor and the rough basically had no grass in most spots. The greens are in good condition. They need to spend some money improving this course and they could charge more to play.

It can be fixed

Score card vs the course.... #1 box and #10 box was confusing to me and wasn't explained. I get it now after my guy cleaned my clubs. Carrt guy should be the starter and move the other 2 guys in the club house to a useful position..

D-U-M-P

One of the worst golf courses I’ve played in AZ. Sand and dirt all over the course, grass is scalped, crab grass every where. No pace of play enforcement. Stuck behind a DUO for 55 minutes through 3 holes. Won’t be coming back, save your money and look elsewhere.

Course Review

Good course. Fun to play. Rough spots throughout. Bunkers were awful. I chose to pick up and not play out of them- they were hard dirt- very little sand. If I had avoided the bunkers it would have been a much more honest round.
