Golfer Reviews
Great Deal
Lots of water (they don’t call it the Lakes for nothing!). Cool layout and fun to play. Unbelievably great deal for Phoenix area golf in the winter. One of the more challenging executive courses I have played. Well worth the time and money. Looks like it may have just re-opened? Temporary trailer for a clubhouse. No food/beverages. I never judge a course by what they offer in amenities, if you do this isn’t your place (yet). Hopefully they will add a true clubhouse. Greens were a little bumpy and most putts didn’t roll true. But a foursome under $100 in the winter can’t be beat. Best deal in Phoenix right now hand down.
course is coming back to life!
Been playing here for a few years now and they are most definitely bringing this course back to life. If you need a spot to work on your irons and short game, this is the place. Great bang for your buck!
A Great Work in Progress
Overall, a fun course! The greens and fairways were in quite good condition! The roughs were… really rough. However, considering where this course used to be, it’s easy to see that they are trying to revitalize is, which is a good thing. Overall, fairly affordable and a fun round.
Hidden Gem
This is a great golf course to play . The different distances and course layout with hazards are truly challenging. This is one of the many reasons why I love playing this golf course. Staff is very friendly and professional. The greens run pretty fast and the fairways are amazing, a lot of work has gone into revamping the Lakes and its showing .
Dave - General Manager
I was approached by a golfer a couple holes in and was told to stay off the fairway. I was surprised because when I can checked in, no one informed me that it was cart path only or that you start on hole 10. Not only was this golfer rude when he approached me, I later found out he was the general manager (Dave). He never mentioned working for the course but felt the need to rudely interrupt me in the middle of the hole to let me know where my cart should be. He was also playing in a fivesome ahead of us (we were a twosome) and they were all playing from different tees, slowing pace of play. For a course that is just reopening and trying to establish clientele, I was not impressed with the general manager’s behavior. People as rude as him should not work with the public. Thankfully, they have some awesome guys like Rich who cleaned our clubs and apologized for the experience. Hopefully, you don’t get stuck on the course with the GM. Because of him, I will not be back, hold any of my annual golf tournaments there or refer any of my family, friends or clients to this course because of my experience with this GM.
Definitely an Improvement
We haven't played this course in a while. It was a nice surprised to see how much it has improved. It was really nice to see that they redid the bathroom on hole 14/15. Greens looked great. Still some work to be done but overall it's looking much better.
Give it chance
Great course to work on your short game. Staff is great . Title of give it chance meaning give it chance for a comeback . Reopening a course can be tough but they have made it playable . Look at this way you can pay much for and not make the fairways and play on desert anyways so why not work on your gave and if you make the fairways you good here. If you don’t it can be a little
Weedy instead just desert rock. So overall the fact the staff is great and friendly and the sense of give us a chance to come back will get me to support this course again and again and help be part of a comeback .
Affordable Golf with Good Conditions
The Lakes was one of few available for a last minute tee time that was affordable for my son and I. The conditions for the Greens, Fairways and Tees were very good. The course has really come a long way over the last few years. I hope more people play here, but kind of don't so it stays affordable.
Lots of water on the front, not as much on the back. Have to be accurate and know your distances.
Great value - Potential to return to original condition
I 1st played this course 40 years ago and very happy to see it coming back.
The positives:
- a great walking course and fun to play
- overseeded green grass in fairways, greens and fringe
- sand in the bunkers
- friendly staff
Areas for improvement:
- cups are not placed correctly, many of them were raised up causing short flat putts to break significantly away from hole
- lakes were half filled and had smelly algae issue but it looks like they were filling them
- lots of bare areas and weeds around fairways
Overall a great value and I will be back. Hoping to see continued improvement.
Better than expected
Grass is in good condition. Good variety of holes.
