this course is going to be great
I don't know the whole story, but this course once existed and then languished, It's in the process of being reborn. Currently operating on a shoestring budget, the money seems to be going into the course.
You're going to want the be in the fairways because the waste areas are brutal. There several lakes that aren't lakes. They're dry. But try to envision how difficult this track will be when the ponds are flooded, It's heavily bunkers and the are tricky.
There isn't a clubhouse or restaurant. No snack bar or bar, There aren't even trash cans on the course. But try to enjoy this upstart and believe that you're built something
Not what I expected
The Lakes at Ahwatukee should be the Lake beds of Ahwatukee, one lake and a bunch of holes. No clubhouse, no restaurant that is on the website.
Disappointed
First time playing a course in Arizona and this course wasn't up to par. No water, no clubhouse, no real amenities.
No frills just golf
No clubhouse, no cart person, no vending of any kind, no alcohol license, no marshall. Course conditions were good and greens slow but good. Very slow play. For afternoon you can’t beat pride just make sure you bring anything you want to drink. Nothing available sat course. Will play again.
Super great greens
Overall very good conditions for a course that is being brought back to life ... 6 par 4's (longest is 400 years) and 12 par 3's varying from 96 to 203 yards so you will use every club ... outstanding bunkers with fun course design.
Coming back to life
This course was closed in 2013, and opened again a couple of months ago in 2022. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are in good shape, but the rest of the course looks like the moon. The owner was forced via a lawsuit to reopen the course, but he has only done the bare minimum to revive it. No bathrooms (only full porta potties), no water stations (important when in the desert). It’s a great course layout to work on your short game, but be prepared for a lot of wreckage of missing trees and dry lakes along the way.
Greens are short and fast, good grass seeded this year
This place honestly impressed me today. I’d heard it was a a bad course before, but my expectations were proven wrong. Amenities wise, not much to speak of. However despite this, the new grass seeded this season culminated in a great experience. Super fast greens (probably 8-9 speed), well groomed fairways, and a fun course layout. Good pricing for this time of year too (paid 27 dollars to walk). Overall on par or better than rolling hills.
Good short game practice
Fun little course. You get to pull out the driver a few times but it is afterall a par 60. Still has some barespots to fill in and ponds to fill, but it's fun anyway. It's a good value at $30.
Under Reconstruction
Looks like the back nine is undergoing a big rebuild. Various temp facilities while they work but ice that they are open. No doubt it will get better as time passes. There are many dry or bare earth areas but if you keep it on the fairway they are nice. The greens are growing ok but are in a big need of rolling. Putting is a little like playing Chinese Checkers…Staff was great, welcoming and accommodating
Great fun for our group!!
Although this course just reopened the greens were in fantastic condition! They were on the slow side but ran very true and receptive. The fairways were in beautiful condition and I was really surprised how uniform the course conditions were. Great job by the crew to get this course back in playing condition!! The staff, Riley and Tommy, were super friendly and welcoming when our group arrived. We had such a blast on this course. The holes play fairly long for a par three course from the tips but is great for a tune up round for the long hitters. The range was beautiful too with the mountains back drop and perfect grass conditions. Perfect golf course for those that want a relaxed and fun environment with no intimidating pro golfer types making you feel bad for that shanked shot.
decent course
Executive course with some challenging holes. Greens were in decent shape. Enjoyed the round as I only paid $11 via Golfnow. Not a scenic course...with a Jack in the Box almost on one of the fairways, but I will play it again.
Course is up and running needs more work
I played Awhatukee Lakes and it has come a long way since opening back up. They have carts now and all 18 holes are open. The greens and fairways were in good condition a little shaggy but standard for this time of year in AZ. With some more work and upgrades like finishing restrooms, rebuilding clubhouse, getting a snack bar or concession stand up. I think the course would be an excellent place for a short round Par 60 executive course and it has a nice layout. I hope they keep putting in money and work because it's a great course with a lot of potential. I would play it again for the low price and I would say if they cut and roll the greens and get the rest of the course work done soon it's going to stay busy all winter.
Showed up for 630am tee time and no one was there. Waste of time.
Perfect for a quick and stress free round
This course is par 60 with a mix of par 4 and 3 holes. Although I rode, it can easily be walked and would make for a better workout. The course is absolutely playable and the holes are interesting and deliver modest challenge. Aesthetically it still needs work but for the money and time investment it's fine. They also have a very nice practice putting green and am off the turf (no mats) driving range. I am an 8 handicap and shot 65, having never played there before. Distances are a little off compared to the signs, especially on 17, so check with a range finder before you swing.
