Starfire Golf Club - The King Course

Course was pretty easy to play. Went out early so pace of play was under 4 hours. Course was a touch overpriced but that is Scottsdale. Back nine is short and fun. Neighborhood course so not the desert style which are tougher. Enjoyed my day overall.

Course was dried out, hard. Quality of the fairways and greens was very poor almost like hitting off cement. Course design was nice.

Decent track for the cost. Friendly starter and rangers.

My experience was defined the moment I walked up to the starter and was confronted with the an attitude. We literally walked p to the first tee and were lectured about pace of play after they were 3 minutes behind getting us off. I had made a tee time for a foursome and a threesome. One member of the foursome had a last minute issue and could not make it. The course charged me for this person anyway, even though I brought them 6 out of 7 players. Played golf, bought drinks, paid for range balls. I will never play here again. They offered me a credit with them for future play and they can keep it. Their short sightedness on $140 will cost them much more from this golfer. There are too many other great courses in the area to waste your time here.

As usual this course is one of my favorites you just need to experience it yourself to understand how great it is.

Tee boxes pretty bare. Practice putting green sucks but on.the course a tad better. Overall maintenance of the course is fair at best.

Course condition was great. King course was fun and challenging, used a lot of different clubs that I hadn’t used in a while. Staff was friendly inside the club house, the only down side was the starter, who was pushing us at the turn for no reason!! We had a group in front of us and no one on our tails. Nothing ruins a great round worse than a pushy marshal. If we had been lagging behind, I could see the point of his discussion, but as he was telling us this the group in front of us was driving to the tee box on ten. That’s my only negative, other than the price (just a bit too high for this time of year.

This is an Arnold Palmer-designed course that is more challenging than it looks due to 3 par-fives on the front nine and water on 5 of the 9 holes. The second nine is shorter but narrower. The risk-reward choices are plentyful and create opportunities to make or break a round. The course is kept in good shape, greens run true and it seems as if there is never a level/straight putt. If you have out-of-town quests this is one course to take them to.

Very relaxing round with reachable par 5s and a nice layout.
