Legend Trail Golf Club
About
When the architect Rees Jones created the golf course at the Legend Trail Golf Club, he created a golf course that brings out the Old West-style air of Scottsdale and a fun and testing golf course with greens made of bent grass. It's a premium golf course smack dab in the Sonora Desert.
The golf course at the Legend Trail Golf Club features broad fairways, diminutive bunkering and tees placed on islands, and has been called one of the Top 100 golf courses by Golf Magazine. The magazine also gives Legend Trail 4.5 stars out of five among its
Best Places to Play, and has one of the Top 100 Woman-Friendly Fairways, according to Golf For Women magazine. Panoramas include local sites like Pinnacle Peak, and a round at Legend Trail Golf Club gives all levels of golfer several different shot-making options.
Golf a late-afternoon round on Friday or Saturday, and head back to the Trail's End Grill from 4 to 6 p.m. for specials on drinks and appetizers.

Another Great Hole Photo submitted by mhinkle on 09/23/2012
Legend Trails
Had a great round of golf here. Course was in very good shape. Greens were nice and quick. Bunkers somewhat inconsistent - several with very little sand.
Also they have switched to gas carts from electric, never as nice an experience.
Definitely caught a good weekend price by teeing off at 1pm.
Would play there again for sure.
Not for the faint of heart/game
Legend Trail is a great track-if you've "got game." It's a typical "Jones" course with multiple elevated tee boxes, overly-undulating fairways, greens fronted by every imaginable hazard, and trouble everywhere. Don't play it on a day when your game is suffering or you don't feel well because you will not enjoy it. I hadn't played it in years until yesterday, and I now recall why. It's brutal. You have to have length for forced carries, accuracy to hit greens, and concentration to keep it in play. I don't think I had a flat lie all day. The scenery is beautiful, the routing is imaginative, and it's very challenging, but number 11 is one of the hardest holes you'll ever play. GOOD LUCK!
Challenging target golf course
Don't expect to shoot your handicap here but if you do, congratulations! Several blind shots hide severe penalties. I believe the course used to provide a booklet to show the layout & the hazards-too bad they don't any longer. Nevertheless & despite the inherent difficulty, you've just got to soak in the beauty of the landscape & great condition of the golf course. A "bucket list" for public golf courses in the desert. FYI: take a gps/rangefinder as none available on carts-and more than a couple golf balls.
Solid specimen of desert golf
This course had been recommended to me by a few golfing friends and I finally had the time and opportunity to get out and try it. The 3-days of previous non-stop rain were handled well by the course itself - but nobody loves 'path only' days - no fault of the course though.
The layout is varied and fair. Conditioning was very strong - especially in light of the weather drubbing it took the prior days.
Will return and recommend.
great course a even better views
A must play for all level handicaps. My wife and I really love this course
Hitting over Cactus
Great practice area. Residences were nicely removed from fairways. However, favorite aspect of the course was hitting from the tee boxes , seeing the cacti in the foreground and the green fairway target in the backdrop. To me that's desert golf.
Beautiful course
I always enjoy this course because of its beauty. The only complaint has been pace of play which took over 4 1/2 hours.
Excellent Course
Beautiful course. Great value for late afternoon 9 hole round. Highly recommended.
Overall very good
Fast greens and nice fairway grass. Some of the bunkers need more sand as under the 1 inch layer of sand it was hard packed and extremely difficult the control the ball.
Where's the sand?
Overall the course was fine, but the few times I did hit it in a bunker it was like trying to hit off of concrete. The greens crew was putting more sand in some bunkers so this must have been a common complaint.
Great golf for the money
Course in great shape, especially the greens. All sand traps full of sand and well raked. Amenities could not have been any better. Course good layout, fun to play and good value for the money. I would not hesitate to play it again and I will.
Great course, friendly staff, good hot dogs
A mix of desert target and wide open fairways. A few holes you'll need a 200 yard drive to clear the junk. I lost a few balls. All in all a very nice layout. Very helpful staff, nice pro shop, nice 19th hole. Easy to get to. I'd go back.
Beautiful Views great condition
This course is one of the hidden gems in north Scottsdale .
The back nine reminds me of Toon North .
What a value !
Nice Course
I hadn't played Legend Trail in 4 years. It is a nice layout, very fair, fairways are wide; we played from the silver tees, which was 6600yds. There were maybe 2-3 holes that were challenging driving holes,. The greens were in excellent shape and rolled true even after a night of rain. The greens are large and the approach shots are straightforward. For the lower handicap golfer, this track isn't as challenging as several courses in the Scottsdale area but it is fun nonetheless.
Great golfing
Beautiful lay out for all golfer's, green in excellent condition, clean and polite staff
Very Nice Course
Very nice layout. Every hole is different. This is a challenging course for an average golfer as some holes require precise placement of your tee shots.
