Great Eagle Golf Club
About
Great Eagle Golf Club, rated one of the most affordable golf courses in Arizona, is a championship course in the West Valley. Although it has a traditional design there are several unique and challenging elements that come into play such as undulating mounds that cause uneven lies and well-guarded greens. Water hazards also come into play on four holes. The golf course offers three sets of tee boxes so that there is some flexibility regarding levels of challenge, but overall the course is suitable for any player. The Great Eagle Golf Club, in addition to the course, also offers both a chipping green and a putting green.

Worst Condition
The 10th hole looks amazing from the street. You can tell they put all their effort into making that hole look good. The Other 17 holes are some of the worst conditions I’ve seen a course. Some of the tee boxes were fine, but they Actually moved up two of the par 4’s to play as par 3’s. Two of the 350-ish yard par 4’a had tee boxes moved WAY up: one to 70 yards, the other about 150. The actual tee boxes looked perfect, but instead they had us tee off really far forward in.a muddy, hacked up spot in the rough. Every fairway was about 90% dead, so even the perfect tee shot would leave you with a dirt shot with zero grass. This course in this condition is worth no more than $20 per player, but instead they are charging $45. Really disappointed.
Great Value!
Wow, very surprised at the course condition. I hadn't played here in over 10 years. You can tell the superintendent has put in the work to make it a better course than what it's known for. I was impressed with the tee boxes and greens - excellent shape! I prefer the layout over its sister course ( AZ Traditions).
Don't waste your money
Have played many courses over the 23 years I have been in the Valley, & this ranks among the 3 worse courses.
We play every week & during the off season maybe twice a week, & I can say with clarity, we'll never play this course again.
Rough shape
I was in the fairway 79 percent of the time hitting off of dry dirt. Two par four and fives were changed to par 3. The greens were in ok shape. Tee boxes were horrible. People were very friendly. And the grill didn’t open until late and didn’t serve any breakfast.
Horrible
No mention that club house was closing early before restaurant opened. All water fountain were shut off. Par 5’s reduced to par 3’s. Much of the course was dead Brouwer grass and hard pan.
May 14 2021 Great Eagle Round
I have played GE many times over the past 10+ years and continue to view GE as a great course layout/design but in much need of improvement. In fairness, today the greens and tee boxes were in best shape that I can remember, a plus. The in between tee and green isn’t and has never been in good shape. The so called cart paths are pitiful - except for the last 75-100 yards of hole 18. There are so many courses within 20 - 30 minutes of GE in much better shape and at or less than cost of GE. Have felt for years, if they would improve paths and address fairways, GE would be a golfers destination. Okay, why do I play here from time to time? I live in community and sometimes don’t have time to drive elsewhere.
Disappointed
First time playing it this time of year. I don’t know if it’s the weather or what but I was disappointed with the course conditions. We’ve played other courses in the area that are in much better shape and are the same price. I sure hope that part of the dues for the people who own here don’t go to course up keep.
Played here in the past wasn't in bad shape. They have really let it go over the past 2 years.
Poor course conditions
I don't know if they are having water issues or they just quite watering with summer coming but the majority of fairways are brown, dead or dying grass that is like playing off dirt. They are way overpriced for the course conditions. In addition, I teed off at 7:30am on a Saturday and no on course beverage service.
No water on course...but no masks either?!?
No masks wearing in the pro shop, that is fine and great, but if your gonna do that why not put water on the course. Dont say because of Covid risks....next excuse. Its hot, its dry its Arizona....golfers need water on the course please. Thank you!
Great Value, Great Golf
I love Great Eagle. The staff is friendly, the fairways are wide and the course is forgiving. There aren’t too many traps and only 2 or 3 holes are close to the water. If you can’t drive straight you shouldn’t have a hard time finding your ball. There is some areas off of the fairway that are unforgiving but for the most part if you golf like I do, you’ll be able to recover from major slices. The course fee includes a cart. What’s not to love. Its not the most magnificent course in the valley but for the price they’re asking, it is the best bargain.
