Great Eagle Golf Club, rated one of the most affordable golf courses in Arizona, is a championship course in the West Valley. Although it has a traditional design there are several unique and challenging elements that come into play such as undulating mounds that cause uneven lies and well-guarded greens. Water hazards also come into play on four holes. The golf course offers three sets of tee boxes so that there is some flexibility regarding levels of challenge, but overall the course is suitable for any player. The Great Eagle Golf Club, in addition to the course, also offers both a chipping green and a putting green.

Disappointing experience at Great Eagle

As an avid golfer, I’m always on the lookout for new courses to test my skills. So, when I heard about Great Eagle, I was eager to give it a try. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of expectations.

First off, the atmosphere was anything but welcoming. From the moment I arrived, I felt like an unwelcome outsider. The staff seemed more interested in enforcing arbitrary rules than ensuring guests felt comfortable and valued. It was as if they were more concerned with maintaining an image of exclusivity than fostering a sense of community among players.

The course itself was in poor condition. Fairways were patchy, greens were uneven, and it was hard to tell the difference between the cart path and the greens. It was clear that maintenance was not a top priority, despite the hefty fees charged for a round.

But perhaps the most frustrating aspect of my visit was the attitude of fellow golfers. Instead of the friendly camaraderie I've come to expect on the course, I encountered a clique of players who seemed to view anyone outside their circle with disdain. Me and my partner were getting blamed for holding up the players behind us when it was the players in front of us that were causing us to appear to go slow. It was a stark reminder that not all golfing communities are as inclusive as they should be.

Overall, my experience at Great Eagle Golf Course was a disappointing one. Despite its reputation, it failed to deliver on even the most basic elements of a satisfying golfing experience. Unless major improvements are made, I won't be returning anytime soon.

Good for the money.

The course has a good lay out. This is probably the greenest it’s ever been through out the years of play. Fingers crossed they keep it that way. Not sure why they don’t keep sand in the traps. Would be better than hitting off rock. Don’t try riding on the cart path unless you have everything strapped down. The greens were surprisingly in excellent shape. Good course for the price. Hopefully they keep improving.

Not Terrible

Friendly staff both at the cart barn, front desk and first tee. The course was in OK shape but the greens were a bit bumpy due to all the tire tracks from course vehicles all over them. The cart path for the most part resembled the Baja in CA except in certain places where it had poured concrete. The clubhouse is under renovation but that is OK. Fairways were good and the rough very patchy in spots. Will go back to play however because it is an OK course.

Rude staff, rude players

The staff gave us 2 warnings about holding up the group behind us even though the group in front of us were holding us up thus causing everyone to be held up. The staff also complained that we weren’t on the cart path when the course and cart path literally look the same (poor condition) throughout most of the course. The people here seemed very judgmental towards us. If this course was nice like the Wigwam or The Raven then I understand the staff being a little picky, but this course is horribly maintained and cheap looking.

Great Eagle

This course has improved significantly from 1 year ago. The fairways and greens are in better shape. The sand traps are not sand traps but hard pan. They need to improve the sand in the traps. Typical desert course with little rough to work with, dirt and gravel..Overall for this time of year a great value with a Great Eagle punch card.

Not on our list of courses to golf again...

I understand the reviews are very subjective and dependent on one-time experiences but the previous reviews that speak to the poor condition of this course are spot on.

The greens and parts of some of the fairways are in nice shape but the remainder of the course falls under the category of "disasterous."

Many, many repairs and improvements have been started but just left unfinished. Such as curb and cart path concrete repairs. The paths, as mentioned i previous reviews, are very, very rough. the bunkers are concrete. Drainage is nonexistent.

Much of the layout is fun and appealing but some areas make me scratch my head. Some tee boxes on the back nine are literally a few feet away from the RV campsite'ss backyards. And the residents could care less about the golfers. Loud music, parties, talking, etc.

The vibe is just not for me. I'm not a country club snob by any stretch but this course looks and feels like the golfers dress, in wifebeaters and sleeveless shirts.

With the exception of the lady that checked us in, the staff we interacted with were unfriendly and unhelpful.

I will not return and cannot recommend...

Average Arizona Course

This course is an older course in the area. Front 9 needs to be updated. Back 9 is much better. They do not work the bunker's at all. They are hard as a rock. Should just get rid of them. Rental carts need to be upgraded. Restaurant/Bar has great food and atmosphere with many large tv's. Friendly staff.
