Putting on a beautiful green Photo submitted by gordyvon on 09/25/2012
Disappointed
This use to be my favorite course, but after today it will be awhile before we return!! The fairways were like playing on a mowed dead pasture and the greens were in such bad shape you could count your ball bounces! I realize ALL the courses are getting heavy play, but a little water would really help out!
Dried out. Poor value right now.
A shame as the track is fun, but very dried out with spotty turf. So disappointing as I used to play here often. Greens okay, but seemed a bit slow. Hadn't played course in 6 years. Used to have Player's card, but paid $70 walking on a Saturday. Not worth it. Four hours for Saturday was okay. Hope we get rain!
Put some money into it.
Sad to see this beautiful course in such demise. Tee boxes are a mess, fairways are totally dried out with many having no grass at all and greens suffering from disease. One of the few Public courses you used to be able to play near the Peninsula without emptying your wallet but now it’s really not even worth the Hot Deal.
Needs real grass & lots of water
I stopped playing after 9 because the group (& myself) thought we were wasting our time. There is very little green grass besides the greens. So much dirt and brown grass. Please water your course. Terrible decision...
Great Layout, but condition not where it should be for me...
My wife and I played Laguna for the first time and the overall layout is very good, but for about $90 a person it should be kept better than an average Muni. This course could/should be amazing it has everything but care. I’m not sure I’ll be back considering we can play Pacific Grove for less...
didn't finish
bought on golf now, 11:50 tee time with cart. can finish before dark. I need a cart, they tell me closing at 4:00pm and need the carts in by 3:30. Surprisingly we get to the 17th hole by 3:20 and we are told it was are last hole of the day. We were the last group of the day to tee off, they had no marshal to keep groups moving. we were waiting almost every shot for the group in front of us. We were the only group that wasn't allowed to finish.
greens were in good shape. the fair were bad for the price, a lot of dead grass. Might not go back for a while.
Local
I’ve played here many times and I enjoy the layout. Plays longer than the yardage due to elevation changes. Conditions are always questionable. This time around the tees were moved way up due to them trying to heal back portions. Greens were decent. Bumpy as expected for this course. There are a few true lines out there though.
would not recommend
Greens horribly bumpy, fairways thin in most places and full of golfer holes.
Great vistas and tricky greens. Fair course and sneaky tough.
Great track that used to host a PGA event in the 1970s. Geiberger beat Clampett and Bayer in a playoff in The late 70s. Tough approach shots to elevated greens. The vistas are great and the greens are tricky. Good test of golf especially from the back tees. Totally recommend. Cart girl driving range half way house and friendly staff.
Election Day blues
RTJ course with nice greens and fairways. Shot making a premium and course knowledge a huge help
Poana greens are tough, but I like the course
Mostly good things to say about the course. The routing is pretty fun and the greens mostly roll well. However the poana greens can be bumpy and the bunkers are not great. (lots of courses are rough during covid). There are definitely some grass issues, but the course is definitely playable. I will be back
Excellent weather
Ok price, covid inconsistent credit card in pro shop cash only at snack bar. Course was really dry. No beer cart on course with drinks and sandwiches snacks.
Nice surprise
We had never played this course and were in the Monterey area so we gave it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The course was very nice
