Excellent valley views
We love the layout and different tee elevation but the greens were a little bumpy. Overall we recommend this course.
What happened to this place?
Played Laguna today for the first time in 6 months. Used to play it all the time back in the day as a mini member. I used to enjoy playing there. The conditions were absolutely horrible. I don’t know who is taking care of it or what is going on, but it seriously was a dog track. The fairways were terrible, bare spots and mounds all over. A good lie is hard to come by. The greens were extremely bumpy and inconsistent. They were always a bit inconsistent but this is the worst I have seen it. Thankfully there were five or six greens in good shape. I hope they get it back together soon. Not worth the $70 fee. Will play elsewhere.
Good course
Good conditions today, good pace also! Only thing was snack shack was cash only and pro shop is card only lol. So be ready with both
Not aging well
I've seen this track look so nice in the past. Lush green grass all down the fairways. Today was embarrassing, the ball was jumping on the greens, the practice mats were 20 years old, and the fairways were not only patchy but hardly alive. Thankfully the rain over the last couple weeks has softened things up. This track needs some real help.
Bumpy Greens
For midwinter the course played very nicely, however, the greens were very bumpy.
Disappointing
Layout and pace of play are fine but I have never played a golf course in as poor condition as this.
Laguna Seca----better than I thought
this is a robert trent jones course, which i didn't know---and the weather was perfect. the pump on the well that provides the irrigation to the course has been broken for over a month, so the fairways were quite yellow, but the ground wasn't hard. there are a few really difficult holes like the 15th, but overall, i really enjoyed the layout, pace of play and even with the irrigation issues, the greens were in great shape. will play again for sure!
Good course
Fun layout, fairways not really in great shape. Greens really bumpy. Person that checked us in was very nice. They can definitely use trash cans at more tee box’s, and definitely a golf cart course. A lot of hills. But it is a cool course worth a play
Winter conditions & poor greens
Fairways are hit and miss Winter conditions for sure. Brown and thin in most areas. Greens looked like a waffle. Square grids with two different height of grass throughout Very bumpy.
POP was slow. Group in front of us fell almost two holes behind.
Not worth the cost with so many many other superior and more affordable options
Very disappointed. For a price point that exceeds bayonet and black horse, this course is not worth it at all. Average course maintenance, decent layout, but WOW was the pace of play slow. No marshal on duty and no regard for players time.
I will say, however, that the only point were pace of play was considered was when the starter was rushing us off the first tee. He sat there in a golf cart, blowing cigarette smoke at us, and literally commented on everybody's first swing. WHO DOES THAT? Beyond rude and unprofessional.
When you have superior courses for a much better rate in the area, why waste your time on this dump?
while encouraging walking, there were many who had single golfer per electric cart making their pace of play much quicker than the two walkers who we were paired with. Despite playing a 4:10 round. there were unhappy - rude people behind resulting from frustration at the pace of play.
Disappointed again
We had played this course a couple of weeks past and found the fairways and greens to be in horrible condition! After our rains a week or so ago I thought things would green up or shape up, but silly me, everything had gotten worse. To my dismay, even the restrooms were dirty and had no paper towels or soap. The only thing going for them was the friendly staff..
Not going back
I've placed Laguna Seca several times this year. Yesterday was my final round there (at least until I hear of some massive changes). The entire operation seems to be run on a shoestring. Course conditions (which never were great) are now really poor, and it's not just because of the season -- greens appeared unmown and in some cases unwatered.
Equally poor is the general disposition of (most of) the employees - the guy behind the counter has the personality of a door knob, and acts like customers are a nuisance.
The last few times out, I've noticed a complete lack of marshals. There's no excuse for this at a course with a seniors program. This, of course, leads to all kinds of unacceptable behavior by players and spectators. I saw carts driven within 5' of putting greens, and virtually onto teeing areas.
Overall, the place has the feel of a dying municipal course. It's really a shame because the layout has such great potential. But without better management, Laguna Seca has become depressing to visit.
