DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

Always FUN
One of the best municipal courses in California!
Always a fun round here.
Greens were rolling great!
It’s January and we are golfing, no complaints!
Sloppy and not in tip top shape
Course needs some TLC! Decent layout though short. Greens were a mess. Some due I’m sure to the recent rains (soft) but it seems no one repairs ball marks. Fairways (loose term) were a hodgepodge of different turfs and very wet (again recent rain). Beautiful area and for a GolfNow special it was worth going. Just don’t expect pristine.
Good course, friendly staff
The course was in good condition, and although I was playing behind two foursomes as a single, the pace was good. The Marshall even offered to move me through the two groups in front of me at about the 8th hole. Very friendly and helpful staff!
The course is pretty tight (high handicap standards) and strategy forces you to layup on many of the par 4s. Overall, a fun and challenging course. It felt like a narrower Seascape, with smaller greens.
I wish I could have known!
Was not made aware that all putting greens were heavily sanded 2 days prior and sprayed with dark green liquid fertilizer that morning, Took the half the fun and challenge out of the round! Unplayable and messy!
Support Staff
The support staff @ Dela is very helpful...
Non of them can break 85 on the course but they All have the killer swing advance......
A must play course when visiting Santa Cruz ...
Need better Marshals
The course is fun and challenging but they keep putting out twosomes rather than combining them. We played behind Mr and Mrs Haversham. They had two holes open and ate sandwiches and talked on the cellphone. We complained to the marshal who just said “They’re a lot older than you.” Terrible. Move them along. He didn’t.
One of then best Municipal courses !
Course is in great condition. The staff is always happy and great customer service.
Delaveaga
This course is a hidden gem! Such an excellent and challenging layout. This is not an easy course! Better to be hitting it straight when you show up here.
Condition is very good. Greens are very good.
Only one single complaint- the bar wasn’t open at 1 pm- not wise,
Great Santa Cruz course!!
Bad day at DeLaVeaga
Ruff unmoved and wet. Carts not allowed on fairways. I lost 6-8 golf balls on the first 6 holes.
My partners and I decided to give up after 6 holes. I have played this course for over20 years and this is the first time I had to walk away before completing the round. For use older guys, the course was unplable. No raincheck was offered.
The worst outing I've had.
Soaked from lots of rain
The course greens were recently aerated and lots of rain in the last 2 weeks. Many spots on the course caused plugged tee shots especially #16 drive. I had a good round but spent a lot of time searching for balls in the fairway. Give the course 2 weeks without rain to recover from the wet winter.
DeLaveaga GC condition
Beautiful day and it hasn’t rained for week but the fairways was sloppy, wet, and muddy. Even if you land on the fairways, you risk losing your ball because the fairways was the same length as the rough and so many daisy’s so it’s really hard to find your ball and the bunkers were hard with no sand. Going there and leaving the place around noon was not any better when it comes to traffic so I don’t recommend this place and this was the third time playing this course and I’m not impressed with this place.
So wet!
This course was so wet and terrible.
Never go there again.
Period....
Very muddy
Horrible conditions to play. Lost my balance on several tees because of wet conditions
You mean Mr & Mrs Havercamp??
;-)
