DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

Bad day at DeLaVeaga
Ruff unmoved and wet. Carts not allowed on fairways. I lost 6-8 golf balls on the first 6 holes.
My partners and I decided to give up after 6 holes. I have played this course for over20 years and this is the first time I had to walk away before completing the round. For use older guys, the course was unplable. No raincheck was offered.
The worst outing I've had.
Soaked from lots of rain
The course greens were recently aerated and lots of rain in the last 2 weeks. Many spots on the course caused plugged tee shots especially #16 drive. I had a good round but spent a lot of time searching for balls in the fairway. Give the course 2 weeks without rain to recover from the wet winter.
DeLaveaga GC condition
Beautiful day and it hasn’t rained for week but the fairways was sloppy, wet, and muddy. Even if you land on the fairways, you risk losing your ball because the fairways was the same length as the rough and so many daisy’s so it’s really hard to find your ball and the bunkers were hard with no sand. Going there and leaving the place around noon was not any better when it comes to traffic so I don’t recommend this place and this was the third time playing this course and I’m not impressed with this place.
So wet!
This course was so wet and terrible.
Never go there again.
Period....
Very muddy
Horrible conditions to play. Lost my balance on several tees because of wet conditions
January golf
Played delaveaga today.
Course conditions were excellent. Greens are sadly experienceing a little issue with a virus or something like that.
Pace of play was excellent.
I love the layout too.
Great time had by all of us.
Great public course
One of the toughest municipal courses in the state. Great design and layout but bring plenty of golf balls unless you hit it straight.
Always a good challenge
Dela is always a fun test. You can hit it off line and short, or long on only a few holes, without paying a steep price. That said, a good test of your golf with beautiful surroundings. The course is undergoing a bit of work right now, as the tee boxes on many holes are mostly sand, with a few blades of grass poking through. Some greens are a bit lumpy, but I think aeration is coming soon. Beach traffic coming back over the hill SUCKS!
Time cut and watering
This course is a very nice.kept and located one but don't cut the grass and water right in the middle of the day when most people are playing. First four holes I had to wait for mowers to move and water to stop being applied to greens. This is something that should happen early not mid day... Otherwise as always it's a good challenging course and nice.views, just stay out of the poison oak right off most fairways.
Always Enjoyable
I never turn down a chance to play DeLaVeaga. It just never gets old!
Fun Round
First time playing; brought two friends (one had played the course previously). Really pleased with the greens. Staff was great and the pace was wonderful (early tee time helped). Want to bring my wife to play next. Very good value.
Love the course but unfortunately the pro shop sent two sets of 5 players out before us and pace of play was slow.
Big trees big fairways fun coruse
Up in the Santa Cruz mountains, surrounded by big trees course is fun and wide. This course is a hidden gem in my book.
Didn't Remember It Being This Good!
It had been a good 10 years since I'd played last. Amenities still get a 4 star even though the clubhouse is in mid-remodel. They are grilling on the 10th tee box and have beer and canned cocktails available in the Pro Shop. For $62 on a Sunday at 9am, you can't beat it!. Fairways were decent, good roll. Greens in fair shape, albeit a little slow. Pace of play would have been better, but there was a group 3 in front of us that were just plain slow. The Marshall did everything he could short of throwing them off the course. It was only a 60 min drive from Livermore, but of course the drive home (we played 2) was a nightmare at 6pm on a weekend. Looking forward to going back and scoring better, as it can be a tough course even though it is relatively short. The front is a par 34 with one par 5 and three par 3's. Go play it! you won't be disappointed.
