The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

Compared to what you could be paying in the area, this course was great for the cost and it was in good condition.

Great course. Hadn’t played since 2012.

Positives:

Greens roll true, are very challenging and exactly what I love about the Bayonet. The course layout seems easier than before (2012). Beautiful views of the blue Monterey Bay!

Negatives:

Dozens of the beautiful cypress trees are dead or dying. A lot of construction going on (housing and a huge resort).. Sand traps used to have a white fluffy sand.

Hats off to the superintendent! Considering the weather over the last month, this person and the grounds team have done an amazing recovery job. The course was in fantastic shape and playability of course was absolutely outstanding! If you’re on the fence with playing here, I just pushed you over the side to play it! The facility and the views rival many surrounding course but this place has incredible history. This is a must play establishment. I’m a plus index and this will test all your skills but it’s still friendly enough to have pleading for a little mercy! Encourage to play here, you won’t regret it.

Hitting fairways is key out there but even then that is not enough. Long undulating, multiple tier greens will have you second guessing your decisions upon approach. Course is as good as it has looked in years. Greens rolling fast and true. Great practice facility from driving range, short game area and putting. Restaurant is always solid.
