The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Beautiful course
Had a great time,had never golfed here before and can’t wait to come back
Course in Excellent Condition at January 25, 2023
Despite all the rain and storms in California from late December to mid-January, the Bayonet course was in excellent condition. The course was in better shape (drier) than the other two courses that we played on this Monterey golf trip. Everybody knows how tough and brutal the Bayonet course is--no need to review.
But the condition was surprisingly better and drier than the Pacific Grove Muni course we played, and the Links at Spanish Bay course we played, the days before. Bayonet's greens were in excellent shape and very fast.
You can enjoy golf with Bayonet golf course!
Even it was rainy day, we totally enjoy this golf course!
Every staffs were very kind, the course’s condition was also very good!
If I have to say something bad, it's only now that I know the golf course.

COURSE NEEDS ATTENTION
I've played the course many times. I will only comment on the Bayonet Course. I have played it twice in the past 2 weeks. The conditions are disappointing. They are not building houses but entire neighborhoods in what once was a beautiful quiet forest. Unfortunately that is the world we live in today when it comes to developers and housing. I can live with that, but the condition of the greens is very poor. The greens look like they have 6 different types of grasses growing in them. Some greens are hard and some much softer. They don't seem to tolerate foot traffic well. Soft spikes still leave big marks to fix. Feel like even if you hit a good putt, you need to be a bit lucky to have it go in. I suspect they have been dealing with some fungus issues for a long time. The practice green is in hideous shape, and was terrible a year ago. What is going on? The bunkers no longer have the nice white sand and instead are very hard with not enough sand of whatever type. Maybe I am being too critical, but I remember when the course was in really pristine shape, and it's just disappointing to see it go downhill.
Greens were very fast and treacherous. Course was in good shape except for a few bare spots in the fairway.
Greens are ridiculous
The course is easier with the cypress tres groomed but the greens are huge and doggy to putt
