The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Construction
The golf course is good, on the green golf ball rolled fast and there are construction around the course building houses other than that it was good.
Course Conditions Getting Worse
Bayonet and Black Horse are two of my favorite courses to play. I'm local and play these courses often. Unfortunately the course conditions have started to go downhill over the past year. These courses have always been known for their amazing greens. Lightning fast with multiple tiers and the putts always rolled true. This is not the case anymore. The greens are getting worse by the week with pitting and grassless sections throughout. Ball marks aren't fixed by many players and it doesn't seem like the course fixes them either. It's disappointing but still great courses. Hopefully this is a short-term problem and the green keepers can get these courses back to standard soon!
Under Construction
The course is not in good condition: period!
They are in the process of changing the grass is what we were told. Explains the bare patches I guess. Also a lot of aeration underway, which I have no issue with.
What I do have issue with is being charged top dollar for the course when it is NOT in top dollar condition.
Great value for the $$
Outstanding course. Great staff. Excellent practice facilities.
Terrible conditions
Course and maintenance has gone downhill. Don’t over pay for the conditions.
Green condition ?
A lot of funky brown patches with dead or no grass. Diseased?
Not Troon Ready
I've played many Troon managed courses. This is NOT up to Troon's standard.
The course has gone down hill
The fairways and tee boxes are in terrible condition and the greens are super inconsistent. Some of them would be super fast and then others would be super slow. I’m not too sure what happened to their course within the past year but it’s not even fun to play anymore. It could be because of all of the homes that they are building on there course but I’m highly disappointed in paying all that money to play a course that was in such terrible condition. I definitely will not be playing this course ever again!
Fairways were bare
Bunkers were rock hard. Haven’t seen a rake in awhile
Bayonet Golf Course
The golf course at Bayonet/BlackHorse are really excellent layouts and I really playing there. In fact I am playing on 6/1/2022. Thank you to a wonderful staff.
