The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

I have played this course many times and typically enjoy it. However, at the present time, the first cut of rough on many holes is simply too long (4” to 5”) for your average handicap golfer. It’s extremely difficult to hit out of the rough on those holes. They really didn’t need to make this course any harder, and should keep the rough at a reasonable length.

Fairways were in horrible shape. Extremely thin in most places unless you were in the splotches of grass scattered around. Greens were fine but very grainy as always. Tees were in good shape. Great staff but greenskeeping staff has really let this place go to pot. Too bad, great layout. Alright I guess if you want to bump the ball around. Save your money, go somewhere else until they can get a new green keeping staff

Many ground squirrel holes can hurt you ankles and lose balls

For a beginner, this course was tough! The rough is a bit high so if the ball doesn't land on the fairway, the rough just eats it up. Overall, play was at a great pace, course was very beautiful, and each hole had its own fun. Will play again!

Great course. Fairways were a little beat up on a few holes. I assume it is because of a lack of rain. Also, let people know what you are hitting off mats at the Driving Range. I would have saved $5.00.

Stay in the fairways! The grass was so long (6-7 in.) that we had to search our balls for a long time and sometimes not even find it after a shot just a few feet outside the fairway . It slows down the game unnecessarily, it's ridiculous. Otherwise, it’s a nice course. The staff is very friendly.

I play Bayonet at least once a month. I always book through GolfNow because I’m told by the pro shop that those are the lowest rates. Today, I had a friend book directly with the golf shop and he asked for the NCGA rate. That rate turned out to be considerably higher than the GolfNow rate which makes very little sense to any of us. Why is there an NCGA rate at this course that is ~35% higher than the public rate via GolfNow?

Old white guy threw a tantrum because we were late. Course was not at all busy on Thursday morning. We were flexible with our time and were willing to wait. But he HAD to have his say about how people should not be late and how it was going to be a huge problem. Next group *literally* was a two some and we played with them. I guess in this life you meet people who cannot avoid unpleasantness because of their sanctimony.

Greens were shaggy slow, great layout, rough was super thick and long.
