The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Fantastic, difficult course
Great course at a great rate. Fairways were less punishing than expected (only lost one ball) but greens were extremely difficult and fast. Lots of dog legs on the back nine. Course was in fantastic condition and I got paired up with a really nice guy who made the round a lot of fun.
Awesome Golf Course
First time playing here, had the best day of golf on Bayonet Course, beautiful clubhouse and we will be back in March for more awesome golf!
Awesome experience
Break in rain and sunny all day. Course in pristine condition, pace of play was extraordinary that day. The back 9 was more challenging with making putts. Wish this course was closer to sacramento as we’d definitely play it more often.
As usual
This course is almost always in great shape AS USUAL. Be careful on the greens. Fast and difficult. Playing them will help your game.
Great value, hard golf course
I played the pre-renovation Bayonet frequently in my high school and college years in the 70's -80's and it was the toughest course on the peninsula. The renovations (about 10 years ago) were great - cut back the trees a bit and improved the conditions, but still the same footprint. Still really hard, but a bit fairer off the fairway and balls rarely stay up in the trees now. Great layout, great views. The greens were so firm and fast it was a bit unfair. Had a great round through 15, then knocked 40 footer on 16 off the false front and 30 yards down a hill. In spite of that frustration, a wonderful day of golf for a reasonable price.
Great course, great value
Great golf course and an excellent value. Very good food in the clubhouse. Picturesque and very well maintained course.
Just wish there was a Marshall
Great course, great deal just wish there was a Marshall on the course. Had a couple of ppl on the course that were jumping from hole to hole. If there was a Marshall that would not have happened. Overall great place to Play.
Amazing course & location
A must - the next best course after the 17 mile drive choices.
Golf
Bayonet is always way challenging. Nothing easy. Getting to the greens is only 1/2 the battle. So tough. So much fun.
The pin on #16 at Bayonet was not accessible. Since I was playing alone, I took the time to relax and dropped a ball in the middle of the green and it rolled 30 yards off the green.
First time at Bayonet
Went to Bayonet with a couple of friends.. I think I had a good time even though the putting was little too difficult, but it's not the course. Haha.. I would love to go there again to play another round.. Hope it happens soon. Look at the picture with the ocean view!!
Bayonet-what a gem
Great course. Greens are tough, need a high approach shot to stick. Would have broken 90 had it not been for a US Open like greens.....ha
Fairways have some strange grass growing but still in great shape considering the recent rain.
Definitely will go back for more punishment.
Staff very friendly. Great calamari app; goes great with a beer.
Greens firm and fast but will hold a good shot
I really enjoy the Bayonet course. You can play the white tees at just under 6000 yards or the blues at 6600 and have as competitive a round as you like. Greens are in excellent shape , firm and fast. Only problem for me is they are hard to read. Don’t feel too bad about three putts, at some point you will have have at least one
As usual
We are a foursome who play every week. We try to play different courses so each guy picks a course when it's his turn. My point is that we like Bayonet/Black Horse so much we find one of these courses in our rotation each month. We all love these courses. Gotta love golf in the Monterey area.
Great value, especially considering course quality. Good amount of tee box options. Hey, you can play here 6 rounds for one at pebble!!!
Great Challenge
A beautiful course, always a strong challenge. Not much letup. Fair but fast and tough greens.
